Re: Are there redfish in Salt Lake (Rockport)?
I have a house on Salt Lake . The fishing can be good at times. The issue for me is water clarity. The wind quickly dirties up the water in Salt lake. In this case, I prefer to go other bay systems with clear water to sight cast in. If you get a winter day with low water the boats can't move around ...

Re: New Statewide Trout Regs - March 26th
I am happy about this ruling. I hate seeing large trout being harvested as I have been on a mission to catch a 30 inch trout for a number of years now without success. I do not see a reason to harvest any fish over 30 inches. If you want a replica just take photographs and measurements.

Cool.
I once found a rod owned by Lefty Kreh with his signature engraved on the reel handle on ebay.

Re: Arroyo Trip
After any guided trip I like to write down notes on what I learned and what gear the guides have recommended. Capt Trevor recommends Waterloo Phantom 6'9" fast action spincasting rod Florida reel company Osprey reel 1000 series. These were very lightweight and smooth. You can send them in for r...

Arroyo Trip
I had my first trip out of Arroyo last Friday. Capt Joe Prado was busy fishing the Legends tournament and we recommended we book with his buddy We Capt Trevor Kucia. The conditions were perfect, light wind in the morning and then increasing to 15 MPH later on the day. Capt Trevor wanted us to start ...

Bob's banger in silver or white.
Try Different Clouser patterns. They like craft fur + add a barred saddle hackle or something similar to resemble a lateral line.

Striped bass in the Hill country
Fishing for Striped bass in clear lakes is a challenging fishery to figure out. I have had several trips on my own surrounded by striped bass boiling on the water's surface and was unable to get a bite. I caught one fish in about 8 trips to canyon lake. I was just so tired of getting disapointed out...

Re: I sure hope this turns out the way it seems
I have had high quality reels crap on me as almost as often as entry models. It is bad feeling when a spin reel does not turn smoothly anymore. It is a whole lot worse if you spent 400 dollar vs 60 dollars on such a reel. I love my stratic , but that one if for destination trips and it stays on the ...

I mainly buy my fly rods from TFO.
Sage, Scott etc ruined their customer service when they took back their lifetime guarantee.

Freshwater striped bass
I have had more than a few frustrating outings for striped bass at canyon lake in new braunfels. The bass will bust bait on the surface but refuse to hit any lures, any topwater and all the flies I throw at them. I have regularly caught striped bass in salt water on the east coast, but these fish ar...

I like trout magic grubs that you can buy at academy or online. Also small poppers, small wolly buggers.

Re: Live look at MP rigs and surf conditions
What wind direction etc do you look for to predict optimal surf conditions?
I remember once hearing from houston fly club that they avoid high water level conditions as it makes it difficult to drive down the beach. I never thought about that before.

RonMC,
Do you have any pictures of the snook?
After the freeze I saw a large one dead in a pothole in South bay right near the ICW. I had no idea that snook were around as I have never seen one caught in Aransas pass.

Re: No Motor Zones
Have you ever seen this prop scar law enforced? Have you seen the number of prop scars? Our Game wardens are underfunded, which is why I have only once had someone check my fishing license in the last 10 years. The only way to really protect sea grass in shallow estuary like LHL would be to limit th...

Why do we not have any no motor zones in Texas like they do in Florida?
Is there not a demand for at least one area where fish, kayakers can go without being cut off and run over by boats?

Re: LHL
I fished the LHL on the previous weekend. We found fish but they were not eating anything we threw at them. we caught one redfish and then we fished the potholes along the ICW and Southbay and caught two trout. I find that the fish are hard to catch when it gets this hot. What is is about August tha...

Re: Pre-trip Advice?
It is already hot out here. In July, my fishing is limited to very early morning hours and maybe a 2nd outing in the afternoon. July/ August are my least favorite months to be out in the water in Texas. I would wait until October/ early Nov. Then you could fish all day.

Right now the weather does not look great, but I feel the predictions are not really that accurate so far in advance. I would wait a couple more days and then decide, maybe start thinking about plan B.

I saw just saw this video of huge hammerhead shark cruising the shoreline in Galveston Bay. Maybe wading at night isn't the best idea.

Re: Day 3 : Brewster Flats
Thanks GoDoe.
I will give it a try next year when I go back. For a kayak sightcasting enthusiast such as yourself, you would love this fishery. A buddy of mine said he is getting 20-30 everyday on the fly.
