Re: JKrate Live Well

I have the Krate but haven’t converted it as I don’t usually use live bait. Kayak Fishing Supplies has a DIY kit but it is a bit pricey. You might look at their pics and watch their video, and be able to piece the components together yourself. The Krate is heavy. Full of water will make it very heav...

Christmas Bay/Churchill 6/23

Hit the east end of Christmas Bay and Churchill Bayou on Thursday, 6/23. Launched a bit after 7:00. We drifted along the grass but got no hits. Water was very murky. Got to the mouth of Churchill and started catching flounder. I’ve done well there throwing into the channel and then working plastics ...

Re: Copano Bay 5/18

My PB best flounder was 22” - I can’t imagine the fight of a 24” monster. I hook up far more than I boat. Losing one out of my yak might make me remember some unpleasant language  We were catching specs on the outgoing tide at Ceday Bayou, and the guy across from us was hooked up to a flounder...

Well, I spend hours a day playing trumpet and do a lot of home brewing - currently have about 25 gallons kegged up right now 😎

Re: Copano Bay 5/18

I got all of my hook ups on a Gulp lemon pepper jerk shad. I think that' what my son caught his on as well.

I want to fish down there more. The water clarity is amazing - I'm used to the murkiness of Churchill Bayou

Copano Bay 5/18

Winds were brutal but I had scheduled this trip a couple of months ago and was too stubborn to cancel. We put in at the Rattlesnake kayak launch and skirted around to the point, trying to stay out of the wind. Bait was everywhere. Tried some top water and got some half-hearted swats but no hookups. ...

Re: New Pedal Kayak

Pretty feature rich. I’ve been thinking about a peddle drive kayak, but the weight thing concerns me. Have a Kraken and love it, so have looked at the Jackson peddle drives. The Coosa FD is 107lb, Knarr 140…pretty hefty. The Outback comes in much lighter. Maybe I’ll tell my wife I need to get a Knar...

Re: 4/16 Churchill Bayou

Yeah. Thought about a mount for a 50 cal, but it was pushing my kayak's weight limit :D A few years ago was on Churchill in a boat, heavy fog, and some Richard Petty wanna-be has his floating rocket hauling down the bayou. There were a few kayakers there but he never slowed down. Nearly took one out...

4/16 Churchill Bayou

Finally got to get on the water yesterday after 8 long months...Went out with Son #2 and hit the water about 10:30 am. Launched at the east end of Christmas Bay and drifted into the Texas Speedboat Channel, otherwise known as Churchill Bayou. Met a kayaker on his way in and he said the flounder were...

Thanks for the feedback/encouragement guys. Ron: I used that exact hook remover on the dink. Really worked easily - hope the trout survived.

Christmas Bay/Churchill Bayou 4/8

Launched from the boat ramp on the far-east end of Christmas Bay at sunrise. Weather was wonderful. Drifted along the shoreline and got a 15” flounder on about the third cast. He promised to grow and fight even harder next time, so he was released. Spent the next hour or so drifting and caught two u...

Re: Kayak Trailer

If you like to tinker, Northern Tool has a 4x8 aluminum trailer kit they sell. You can get some aluminum bar from Home Depot and make the cross braces to get the kayaks up off of the bed. I added a Malone slide-out box and their wire basket. Both will fit on the NT trailer. Saved a lot of money and ...

Re: Trailering kayaks

The potential problem of a short tongued trailer... So my oldest son was going on a last fishing trip before going off to college and was using my car (Sorento) to pull our old 4x8 utility trailer . He had loaded up and was heading out of the house to my final admonitions about safety. A moment late...

Re: Trailering kayaks

The documentation that came with my Northern Tool trailer had the same speed warning that Neumie posted. I dug around and found some fine print that mentioned the speed rated tires. Not sure what the difference is as they look the same as the stock tires. I would suggest using these as opposed to a ...

Re: Trailering kayaks

Ditto TrailChaser. I bought the NT aluminum trailer and added the 72 MPH speed rated tires. The Malone wire basket and plastic tub both fit on the trailer (these are pricey) so I don't use the fold up option. I attached aluminum tubing to the base and then attached the Sea Wing carriers - also a bit...

Re: Kraken Users - What Fish Bag Do You Use

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Neumie - been looking at the Jackson bag and think it will fit. The Kraken and Cuda hatches are basically the same size and angle. The bags that are, or seem to be, designed for bow or tank wells, so are probably too wide to have easy access. That's the probl...

Re: 7-28-19 - Christmas Bay PACK trip (trip leader)

It was an awesome day. Sorry I didn't get to visit with everyone face to face, but those flounder kept biting  Actually, I'm glad no one was near. Trying to get used to a new boat, forgotten stringer, mother of all bird nests, and much trumpet player language made me an uncivil fishing part...

Kraken Users - What Fish Bag Do You Use

Just retired and bought myself a brand new Kraken 13.5 and am looking for a fish bag that will fit in the center console. My Ice Mule is too large. What do you use? I found something that looks great but is in New Zealand and will cost a fortune to ship. Also found some other bags, Reliable Fishing ...

I use the AA battery pack - https://www.austinkayak.com/products/12335/Philmore-Eight-AA-Battery-Connector-with-Snap-Connector.html - and it works well. Thanks for the brand suggestions. "Mushy and not good" is a perfect description of what I have found in our stores. Going to try the Roland brand. Also have to try the dressing and paprika you mentioned. Actually, some ceviche sounds really good right now! It's funny, my youngest son and I...
