Thanks for the post. I rarely get to go with other fishermen so have learned to expect the unexpected and try to prepare. Hope you have all the equipment you need to stay safe.

Re: Heat related dangers

It is an awful, sick feeling. Probably the worst I've ever felt. Dehydration is painful. I've learned a lot about prevention. Thanks for the reminders.

Thanks for the report! I also love these fish, but I almost never land them when fishing for other fish...they always seem to bite through my leader. Nice going!

Re: Port Arthur

Probably too late, but there is a great sand flat and beach before you get to the jetties in Sabine Pass, close to the old coast guard station, on the channel side...lots of flounders there.

Re: Sweet Southeast winds wading the surf

Ah, sweet report. The surf in a sustained SE wind is my favorite. Forgive me but I love to cast live shrimp under a popping cork out to the second trough. The swells and breakers hide the cork for an instant, then a big fish grabs it. Nothing like a a big speck in the surf.

Re: Craziest fishing experience?

Me and a great Carolina Skiff were headed to Easter Island to camp and fish for a few days. Never launched there, but, what the heck.....got there and didn't like the rates for the fishermans' motel, so decided to camp out...close to boggy bayou. Good night, tent up, rain shield good against small r...

Re: Downwind kayak sail

I use a sail on my Jackson Cuda with my rudder. Works fine. But I've really only used it for fun and sailing, not real transport. But mine works fine.
