Re: Line selection for inshore Kayak Fishing

I use Finns Wind Tamer 20 lb braid on all of my bait casters and spinners. I tie a 6-8 foot section of 15 lb mono on for a leader on all of them.

Re: Heat related dangers

Last time I had my yak out I struggled to get back to the launch. I drank 6 bottles of water in the 4-5 hours I was out, but it just wasn’t enough. To cap off the stupidity, I came home, unloaded all my stuff, then proceeded to mow the grass. For 2 days I could hardly move. Felt like I had been run ...

I was considering chunking some lures in there when I was on my way back in, but I was plumb wore out from the paddle back and just didn’t have it in me.

Re: New seat

Anyone have an opinion on these as opposed to making some out of floats? It would be similar in price it seems for 4 of the floats. Comes with a patch kit with 2 patches just in case, though to date I’ve never hit anything that I think would puncture them. https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DCh...

Champion Lake - Dayton

Anyone gone out and fished Champion Lake in Dayton anytime sort of recently? I’ve never been there and am seeiNg they have a public access boat launch on the lake, and the adjacent Pickens Bayou. The one looks like it would be a good place to hold some big fish. Since I live somewhat close, and I’m ...

Re: Footwear While in the Kayak

I said the same thing years ago. Now i have 5 different pair. Of course i'm old, and don't give a sh*t about what anyone thinks of my clothes anymore (: I'm not that young (40), and I couldnt care less what other people think about my clothing options either. I personally dont like them, and if I d...

Re: Footwear While in the Kayak

I wear Magellan brand wading boots I got at academy. They’re comfortable enough and I am morally against crocs, lol May I ask why just out of curiosity? I bought them 12 years ago to wear on a canoe trip down the Brazos and have only used them when fishing and considering I lived in West Texas for ...

Re: New seat

Jim - I already bought the rod holders, so I might as well use them. Appreciate the info though. Impulse - while I’m sure that design serves its purpose, it looks like the kayak would have to get awfully sideways before those touch the water. I’m looking for some that rides closer to, or in the wate...

Re: New seat

Thanks for the info. How did you mount yours? And how low do you have them? Do they slow you down considerably when you’re paddling?

This is basically what I’m planning to do.

I bought these, and they work great. I can’t comment on durability or the ability to keep a sharp blade, as I’ve only had them for a couple of months, but they work great so far.

New seat

So, I have an old Wilderness Ride 135 that I bought used probably 10ish years ago. It was made before they added the option for the elevated seats, so the seat on it was the basic 1/2” or so pad fastened to the bottom with the cheesy folding back. It was terribly uncomfortable, so I bought one of th...

I'm not making excuses for anybody, but it does seem that he came through and finally delivered. I think it's also important to make clear this thread and your complaint is about an Arizona business with a mail-order website, and not in any way related to TG Canoes & Kayaks in San Marcos. https...

Re: Rudder cables

I discovered with salt exposure, FEP-coated stainless cable lasts 5-7-times longer than bare stainless cable. You can order coated cable from McMaster-Carr. Since April, any outdoor-related business has been swamped. My friend who owns a bike shop isn't selling many bikes because he can't get them,...

Re: A yes or no Poll

I am very much left handed. I cast and control the rod with my left hand, and I crank with my right hand, regardless of the type of reel it is. I grew up fishing with a spinning reel and my dad always had it set up that way. Anything else feels unnatural to me. When I got my first bait caster, I had...

Re: Went to Bolivar today

What the day really did for me was convince me I need a pedal drive kayak of some kind, or a small boat with a little outboard. I am looking at a Native Propel 10 right now, but honestly, for basically the same price I can get a 10' long 2 seat boat and a 6hp outboard. https://www.academy.com/shop/p...

Re: Went to Bolivar today

Next time you pick up dead shrimp try cutting it in small pieces and fish with it on a small hook and try to catch a croaker or pin fish. That's how I fish with dead shrimp, and how I caught the hardheads. Sometimes I use a popping cork, sometimes on bottom. With live shrimp I just use a popping co...

Went to Bolivar today

Unfortunately, as has been my experience with artificial in saltwater, nothing to bring home or even brag about. I managed 1 tiny trout and one even smaller flounder, both on a cocahoe minnow. I had one hard hit using a gulp jerk shad, but no hook up. A couple of random nibbles but nothing willing t...

Re: Wrist Watch?

I just use my Apple Watch for everything. As mentioned about the Samsung watch, I can take calls and answer texts/emails from it, so my phone can stay in the dry bag.

Before I got my Apple Watch, my go to was a G Shock. Those things are practically bullet proof, and not that expensive.

Well, You know the saying, speak of the devil and he arrives. I made that post last night, and a new cable showed up today. Rudder cables - do not order from www.tgwatersports.com

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about my lovely experience with www.tgwatersports.com. I took the yak out about a month ago and as soon as I left the launch site and dropped my rudder, the right side rudder cable snapped. When I got home, I went online and found them in stock on his site a...

Lefty. Rod stays in my strong hand, and I never have to swap hands after the cast. That's fly rods, spinning rods, casting rods and a few trolling and surf rods. I grew up on spinning reels where that was the operating theory, and never saw a good reason to change once lefty baitcasters became read...

Re: Places to fish in Portland area

Actually you could head into Aransas Pass and turn right on 361 and fish either side of the highway. I go down to Light House Lakes often and fish the channel in front of the park and the channel on the opposite side from the park. It never has been the best fishing but usually leads to some fun. I...
