Homemade Fly Reel Drag testing

So the reels all assembled now. Im quite happy with how smooth it runs, and the drag is pretty buttery. Here's the video:

Ill make a video as soon as I have a chance to test it out after work sometime this week.

Re: Nucanoe or square stern canoe?

Thank you all for the input, I pulled the trigger! Here sits my 14' 5" Mohawk Square Back canoe, beautifully refinished by a man in San Leon who is a dealer for new Pangas. He is in the process of refinishing a few more similar to this one but a little longer if any one is interested. I plopped...

Re: Nucanoe or square stern canoe?

Thanks for the input, Im going to look at a fiberglass 14' square stern mohawk tonight. Its cheap enough that its worth the experiment to me even if I end up liking the kayak better. Ill let you guys know how it performs in comparison to my Native Slayer.

Re: Nucanoe or square stern canoe?

Haven't been in a pursuit, but have spent quite a bit of time in the nucanoe frontier 12. The nucanoe gets my vote. Great stable standing platform. Lots of open space for any rigging you want to do, and very easy to add a motor. I fished out of canoes my whole life, and to me they do not compare wi...

Re: Nucanoe or square stern canoe?

Look into the Solo Skiff those look awesome as well Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk I have, those things look awesome, but If I sell my kayak and get a solo skiff, my fear is that Im now limited to either fishing alone or with other solo skiff owners. If I get the Nucanoe or Square stern canoe...

Nucanoe or square stern canoe?

So my ussual boat on here is my Native Slayer 14.5, but Ive got a little 2hp outboard and im looking to play around with getting to some spots a little further from the ramp. For a while now, I've had my sights set on the Nucanoe Pursuit kayak. Seems very similar to my Slayer, but it includes a litt...

Re: Low Water Redfish

I stand and fish from my WS Commander 140. I think its about ideal as it's stable and there isn't anything between my feet to catch loose line. I usually put a couple of fly rods there to act as a de facto stripping basket. Some of the stripped line ends up draped around the fly rods instead of clu...

Home Fly Reel Episode 8

Still cookin' along! I've purchased a piece of Bolivian Rosewood to start carving the handle from next, once that is complete and the corresponding counterweight, were off to anodizing and then complete!

Re: Fishing Upper Taylor Lake

I can't give you any current info, but used to launch at the Red Bluff bridge 20 some odd years ago in my old OK Scupper Pro. I never really caught much more than small trout and a few nice flounder. It was a good place to find mud minnows and finger mullet, though. One thing I can tell you that is...

Re: Fishing Upper Taylor Lake

I fished there two or three times, launching off of Port Road. Never caught a thing. Sure looked fishy, though. richg99 Thats kind of what I expected to hear, when I drive by it, it looks very 'fishy' with plenty of mullet and marsh grass, but then I think to myself, those fish would have to naviga...

Fishing Upper Taylor Lake

I hope I'm not giving anyone's honey hole away, but I really doubt it, I've been trying to find more spots to fish along my commute to work so I can just bring the kayak with me and fish on the way home. This spot seem like a top contender convenience wise, but I grew up water skiing all through Tay...

So I did a little more research and found out a few stores now have them in stock, but in the process I discovered the Nucanoe Pursuit... When i found out it has a little transom on the back that can hold up to a 2.5hp outboard, while still looking like a fairly sleek and paddlable kayak, I started ...

Re: Walk in wade areas near La Porte

Todville Rd. is in Seabrook. And your best bet to keep it legal there is to wade in from Pine Gully Park. We have a lot of issues with people coming on private property to wade Todville.

Thats one step closer, but your right, I will need to be a graphite blank around 8wt. Starting to realize that these cats are all a little farther north. Im willing to go, now Ive just got to figure out which one would be the nicest about letting me see how its done.
