Marc, this is slightly different wind, SSW https://i.imgur.com/xsB7Efi.jpg Bracket your drifts from Big Cut to Little Cut, and limited inside by the 2 duck blinds. Long drifts to Talley Shore can also produce. https://texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2310836 Save Trout Bayou in your poc...

adding a ps @motoyak
If you're fishing spinning tackle, try using manual bail technique.
The fingers of your free hand feather the line coming off the spool to keep it "tighter" - not quite baitcast-tight.

Re: lily pads
Considering how frogs are weighted, it's Very Unlikely for them to land upside-down on a bait cast. All bets are off with a spinning cast. Re: lily pads
Watercress and lilly pad bass require veggie-chopping braid and a rod no lighter than MH (heavier is better). Not sure why the frogs are a problem. Here's a frog-style crayfish pattern, and my frogger reel with Japan's hardest 45-lb braid. https://i.imgur.com/FPtD7Vgm.jpg http://i.imgur.com/kgeo9Sam...

Everyone, but I think your fishing is targeting and harvesting the right fish, won't go to waste, and fits in with conservation agenda.

Re: Night fishing - night of Mon. Apr. 29, 2017 - West Galv. Bay
99% of the speckled trout I harvested over my life were male, because I always fished the structure and tide where the schoolie males came to us. I can count on one hand the number of injured females we filleted in 8 years of fishing Arroyo dock lights. http://i.imgur.com/su3iDUhm.jpg http://i.imgur...

Thanks for the great report, even without fish photos. Clear glitter doubles up for glass minnows for trout - they will eat a larger lure for slashing into a bait ball. TSL Grasswalker Coastal Gold has scored trout for me, and you're right about hook-up ratios. https://i.imgur.com/oHD0TNf.jpg I've f...

Heck of a trip - I'm jealous.
The weather yesterday turned out a lot better than the prediction, though the wind came on strong late.
Very nice hill country bass.
Thanks for the report.

Jim, I'm sorry to hear you're going hungry. Maybe ask Glenn if you can paddle along to his slough one day.
Congrats on the upper slot red, now you need a camera.

Re: Bulls on Parade
fwiw, S-glass has the same equivalent modulus as cane, and even though this rod is rated 1/4 to 1 oz, it skip-casts 1/8 oz off the tip like that's all it was made for - a quality of S-glass. https://i.imgur.com/cXmO9kHl.jpg I have the same niche in river kayak filled with an even shorter, 5' rod, it...

Re: Bulls on Parade
Sorry Ron, how about now? that's awesome friend - thanks for the extra effort. Last year, I put this together, 6' S-glass with backbone, just for close skip-casting 1/8 oz bunny shrimp to redfish backs in sloughs. The centrifugal cast is intuitive for me. But I've yet to get it on redfish backs - I...

Re: New Statewide Trout Regs - March 26th
Quite simply, there never was a myth that all trout eggs are laid by big females. The math is simply the probability of catching females. Below 16", odds are 50/50 of killing female trout. Above 23", odds are greater than 95% of killing female trout. 17 to 23", odds are better than 90...

Great day on the water, great results, photos, great report. This project goes back 12 years. The skeg is invaluable for solving windcock - keeping the boat nose downwind - and was a boon on this last-spring trip with Josh, letting me troll the wind and fish perfectly parallel to the bank without touching anything but my rod. https://i.imgur.com/K5Rh0Ky.jpg T...
