Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal

What about the argument that the City has taken away a resource from the public and needs to provide an equivalent alternate venue? This was essentially the argument GRTU used to gain Stakeholder status in GBRA for the rainbow trout fishery - the coldwater tailrace took away a warmwater fishery, and...

Re: E-bike

I've been seeing more E-bikes on the White Oak Trail here in Houston. I prefer off road riding, but this year I road the Tour of Houston and really enjoyed it. I need to consider a hybrid or put slicks on my mountain bike. The E-bike looks ok for an occasional ride, but I need to keep my heart and ...

Re: Christmas Bay_2 Sep (Fri)

A friend I bicycled with this morning came back from Rockport last week and reported good catches.
The overcast, any rain, and improving fall tides all must be helping.

Re: E-bike

My buddy Donny in the Rockies began with a fat-tire bike and added Lunacycle motor and batteries. The added handlebar is Jones H-bar. https://images.fiberglassflyrodders.com/u/1/tt/71a9b4a18e09caf9e3b11d0b4d80d6d5.jpg With a trailer, they go on extended camping trips - this is his partner loaded up....

Re: What’s your favorite rod holder?

The most versatile rod holder is Stealth QR-1 https://www.stealthrodholders.com/collections/qr1-rod-holders It will hold spinning and low-profile baitcaster, holds them solid, and locks them in if you use the added strap. Also fits Scotty base. Here I have a rod secured for spooling line. Run the li...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022

as a kid waiting to board Wharf Cat, fishing from the Port A dock, I caught a 5'er on Zebcc and Johnson's Sprite. Think I would still aim that kayak to cuts along Aransas and Lydia Ann channels, timed for falling tide (i.e., paddle at high tide). I've caught fly rod jacks at LHL Marker 27 pass into ...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022

Certainly inshore, specs are the apex piscivore. Back when limits were 10, I caught a 20" schoolie spec at Cedar Bayou that been filleted down one side by a shark. Gut sack was intact, he was missing that gill, and scarred over the full length of the fillet with red scar tissue. Could tell some...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022

adding a ps about nite-lite fishing canals and docks.

The wind blows bait into the canals, and the lights concentrate the bait.

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022

a couple of things to keep in mind. Along the TX coast between the barrier islands, there are 15,000 sq mi less than 2' deep. Adult speckled trout travel 20 mi/day to chase bait. The bigger females travel alone, the adult males in schools. The small trout you catch are nursery trout and live where y...

Re: Freeport 28-Aug-2022

Thanks for the report and photos. start here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8H0c6pOm2g Then think about structure where you can apply it. Water moving between channels and flats, flats and sloughs, focuses bait around the passes. Wind currents push bait against structure, and shorelines can be goo...

Flour Bluff now is the Corpus version of Lake Travis.
When I was in college, you could drive around either without seeing another car.

Re: Corpus Christi Area - Aransas Pass Area - Living

S. Corpus is a constant traffic jam both on the Loop, SPID, and especially the grid streets. Flour Bluff property values are over the top, and will continue to out-pace the rest of S. Texas. Corpus drivers are the meanest in Texas, except of course, Austin - settles Way Down as you head up the coast...

Re: question on fishing liscense

Look at the bright side, if you were out of state, it would cost you $10/day to fish anywhere - if in Virginia, $45.

As Impulse pointed out, you can pay that $10 more up front and get an anniversary license, which is good from the day you buy it until the same day the following year.

Don, I have lived through the slow death of my hill country rivers.

If this isn't solved, the next generation is going to live through the death of our bays.

Re: Medina River 08-06-2022 - It Ain't Pretty, Y'all

Thanks KK, I've joked since the 80s that we were guarding the wrong border. A small California equity buys a lot of Texas. But the fact remains, they have the right to move their equity. Saving the hill country rivers and Aransas NWR to Upper Laguna Madre means filling the bucket a drop at a time. T...

Re: Medina River 08-06-2022 - It Ain't Pretty, Y'all

Again, if we want to get the right attention, we need to not generalize, wild-ass shotgun, etc, rather focus on the exact geography suffering the blight of groundwater over-use, and where it would benefit everyone and everything downriver by replacing over-use with desal water piped from the coast. ...
