Re: Jon boat Report 8/6 Jones Creek
Thanks for the report. The boat looks like very useful conveyance. I grew up fishing the sloughs along AP causeway from a 14' semi-vee. we need more fishing. My buddy Lou was at his son's in-laws condo across from PA airport earlier this week. A neighbor there offered to take him out. They staked th...

Re: Medina River 08-06-2022 - It Ain't Pretty, Y'all
This has Never happened before in history. The Medina, the Blanco, the Colorado have never before looked like this. Before the drought that began in 2004, the Guadalupe stopped once on record, just above Rebecca's Creek, where the Trinity aquifer takes flow off the river - Once in 1955, the drought ...

We need Harbor Island, and we need a potable water grid to the hill country that works like the electric grid.
San Antonio and Austin need to buy land at Indianola for Pass Cavallo discharge.

Re: Copano Thieves
About 10 years ago, I was spending a lot of time in Corpus, and had some free time, where I would visit the pawn shops looking at antique firearms. Several times, I ran across the same teenagers with a cache of rods and reels to sell to the pawnbroker. No question they were sweeping the canal neighb...

Re: Standing and fishing
Josh sight fished a couple of small reds standing on his Stealth 15 this day.
It was an 18-kt blow, and having the drift sock out limited the boat pitch freedom to some extent.
Not me.

Re: Amazon $33 Fly Fishing Challenge?
In most fishing tackle, Get What You Pay For is an axiom. Fly tackle, on the other hand, can go to silly extremes - we were just discussing $700 fly reels on FFR. Ebay used to be the world's garage sale, and patient auction sniping could get you quality used tackle, or even stashed unused tackle, at...

Re: Fishing Report San Luis Pass area 6-17-22
Great stuff.
Tides have a way of concentrating bait at outlet-side eddies. That, of course, draws gamefish.
Tobin made a great video on tides, and offers it gratis on youtube.

not much of the forks is suitable for a gunship (this is the confluence of the forks).
Most of it is busting and wading.

and well worth the effort

Thanks for the report Jim.
Also for the details on Harbor Island parking.
I've seen the falling tide at Marker 1 pass blowing out like a river.
We've also caught jacks on the channel slope when spring and fall tides bring them up Aransas Channel.

The worst boat of all time for taking in water is the Emotion Fisherman.
That giant floor hatch was made to stash full-length rods - more like float them.
Lou loves this boat, and takes out a big sponge.

They're hard to plant a hook, but I've landed a few long-nose gar on cats whisker (Tiemco 5363 hook). They make astounding aerials - like tarpon. https://i.imgur.com/jjTGciv.jpg We have a favorite spot to sight-fish them down from Center Point Lion's Park - they mill in the shade overhang on the far...

Re: Relearning fishing
I couldn't be more hooked on finesse tackle. I'm a 48-y fly fisherman, and have caught well over 100 species on fly rod in rivers and salt. Finesse tackle pretty much makes the fly rod obsolete for all except trout fishing moving water. These are my hill country creek boxes - nothing in them weighs ...

This is a loaner box for my spin fishing friends.
I made the single-hook spinners and barbell cats whiskers - the soft jig bodies came from Academy.

My last outing with UL bait rod, spoon was the most productive lure.

Re: Brazoria County Surf 6-4
Surf fishing is manly sport, but you can make it part of a nice day at the beach.
We used to turn it into a Cedar Bayou campout, catch cut-bait in the bayou during the day.
I don't think it's about TS Alex, already off North Carolina and heading toward the Grand Banks.
Thanks for the report.

Re: Time for a New Kayak??
You didn't tell us anything about your boat. Since you mentioned San Marcos, TG Kayaks runs a livery and rental there, and used to repair kayaks as a service, but their insurance made them quit offering repair service. Certainly has nothing to do with the quality of repairs. If you're looking for ju...

Gaff-top is serious slime. I filleted one once, and the meat was really good, but tough to "stick to it" so to speak.
