Re: 9/26/22 Bob Hall pier far rigs trip report

I woke up at 1:15 am to make the drive from San Antonio to the Bob hall pier area by 4am. The wind and surf were non existent when I was setting up. Luckily I had remembered some bug spray to keep the mosquitos off me. With my hobie outback all set up I grabbed my cast net. I had been practicing in...

Re: BHP rigs yesterday

No its not what I was thinking, I was commenting on a recent trip of yours that did not yield much. I was speculating that the fish knew a storm is coming into the gulf and went deep. I have no data or evidence to support that suspicion. Just a hunch. I know the broken parts of my body react to bar...

Re: BHP rigs yesterday

Ever notice how flocks of birds tend to fly away from incoming storms way before we see the storm. The theory probably does not hold up given the timing of KBs trip. But a big storm like Ian will really churn up the gulf. I went out off of Surfside beach yesterday not very far just past the last sa...

Re: BHP rigs yesterday

My afternoon meeting at work cancelled at the last minute, so I ran home and loaded the kayak for a quick offshore trip. The beach near BHP is packed and smooth, and surf was looking nice. I drove down the beach a couple of miles to get the smallest distance to the rigs and launched. The water is s...

Re: Corpus Area Kings

If you fished the MP rigs or others near Corpus last weekend you probably noticed that fish were not around. I believe we have had so much rain runoff that the fish have gone farther offshore temporarily. This time of year should be the best fishing possible, but it seems to be put on ice for now. ...

More kings from my last trip down. Had a big storm that set the bite off! Crazy lure action! They were keted in on small bait and I just happened to have some smaller nomad lures for them!

Re: Late season

Drove to down to CC and spent 2 days to fish out at Mayan Princess rigs. Saw about a five kayakers on Friday afternoon and a dozen kayakers in water on Saturday. The condition was perfect with low wind and low waves but Could not find any kings or no hearing any radio chatting on king hookup. :( Qu...

Re: PINS REPORT 8-17-22 (Day before the BHP outing)

The day starts on Tuesday, August 16th, around 4:00 pm. Ryan and William are meeting me at my place so that we can head to Corpus Christi for two days of offshore kayak fishing. The first day we will fish PINS and the second day we will fish Bob Hall Pier (BHP) for the outing Yakety_Yak is holding....

Re: BTB With a 6 year old Kid

I posted a link in another thread, talking with Killer Bee, but decided it needs it own thread. I got a new Hobie AI, and took my 6 year old son on his first BTB trip. We did manage one 47" King, I think that is a BP for me. Unfortunately, no video of the Kingfish. This one is all about a 6 ye...

I don't know what just happened. I replied to your comments and then tried to edit it and your entry and mine both disappeared. Didn't realize I had that much power, lol. You're 100% right about keeping topwaters at a safe distance. I've only seen one kingfish "bite" injury (accident invo...

Re: My version of Flying Chainsaws!

Bill, I'm right there with you, been wanting capture some top water king videos after seeing Glen's video. I was just out this past weekend at Bob Hall. It was my first BTB with the new Hobie AI and with my 6 year old son, so was managing a few "firsts". We did get one King, 47" whil...

Re: Rat-L-Trap 1 oz or 1 1/2 oz for Kings

The Saltwater series do have the stainless steel hooks, the 1 1/2 oz look like the would be hard hard to troll with, also I’m still struggling on how to tie the wire (using the haywire twist) to my lure and what length the wire leader should be. #6 or 7 spro swivels and 25lb Malin with haywire twis...

I have not used traps but I bet either size would produce Kings. The hooks would need to be saltwater for sure.

My version of Flying Chainsaws!

Hope the Professor and you all enjoy it! Been obsessed since the Prof took those Ausies on that epic trip. I finally got a shot at em on top! I got a great technique that I will share in the next video that I picked up in Panama.
