Re: New Inflatable Kayak
Hey Nathan. I have a couple of inflatable SUP boards . They are inexpensive Amazon boards that don’t have any pedal drive systems. However I have rigged them up for fishing including installing rod holder mounts or bases, anchor trolleys and framed seats. When the opportunity is there I will launch ...

Re: New Statewide Trout Regs - March 26th
I watched the meeting on TPWD’s YouTube channel. I don’t have the link but it should be viewable on their website since they carried it live. Gotcha, found the link Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pErxZWCVAfU I’ll admit it’s a little confusing the way they discussed the options yester...

Re: Educate me on Hobie drives
I’m not100% certain on this but I’m pretty sure the mast diameter is the same from the GT drives to the current drives. The mast length is going to vary. Keep in mind the turbo fins are longer so that is going to obviously require deeper water to be able to peddle in.

Re: New Statewide Trout Regs - March 26th
Wanted to make pass along an update. The commission met during a work secession yesterday (3-27-24) and made a couple of modifications to the proposal on the table. One of the changes was changing the oversized limit from 30” to 28” minimum length. The second was removing the language regarding no o...

Re: New Statewide Trout Regs - March 26th
Yes sir it’s official now. I expect this rule to be temporary though. The commission is currently taking input regarding another proposed spotted sea trout rule change that would implement a tagging system for any trout over 30” similar to what we have with redfish. However if passed there will be n...

I didn’t read the link but I know of someone who received a citation for this and Ive also seen a GW write a citation on Lone Star Law for this. A friend of mine who fished a lot on the Brazos river with limb and trot lines was fishing with us in AP last summer. We saw a GW at the boat ramp and he ...

Trot lines are illegal in brackish or salt water in Texas. Report it to a game warden.

Re: Need input...
I can only speak to the kind of fishing I do chasing reds in the flats. For me I don’t need it. I’m rarely using pedals when I’m fishing anyway because it’s usually too shallow. But I’ve done some bass fishing in Hobies in the past and wished I had reverse. I would expect river fishing to be similar...

I hear ya on the shoulder issues. I’ve had many peddle kayaks, mostly Hobies. I have been on and fished out of several others. Couple of things- First there are obviously 2 styles of peddle drive systems (rotary or bicycle style and flipper style). Quality makes a night and day difference es with pe...

Re: I sure hope this turns out the way it seems
*Update: I did go ahead and take the reel to Roy's for a good cleaning. They changed out the line roller bearing but otherwise just cleaned it and the reel was given a clean bill of health. This coming year I will add a 1000 size reel for those light lures and extra spooky fish. Most of my life I j...

Re: TPWD Sets Public Meetings
The new trout regulations have been voted on and adopted by the commission to become effective by late March. 3 fish per day bag limit 15”-20” slot limit 1 fish per day over 30” as part of the daily bag limit. As I understand it in March the commission will also plan to vote and adopt a tagging sys...

Re: TPWD Sets Public Meetings
Listening to the Commission work session currently being held, they discussed the proposed trout reg changes. Sounds like they are going to propose and vote on (I believe tomorrow) a 3 fish per day bag limit with a 15”-20” slot limit and 1 spotted sea trout per day over 28” as part of the daily bag ...

Re: TPWD Sets Public Meetings
I was really hoping for that too. Or allowing 1 fish over 20” in the bag would be even better. There is still time! I wrote them about that specifically too. Based on decades of history once TPWD gets to this point (public comments) it’s a done deal. I’ll be shocked if any changes are made to the c...

Re: TPWD Sets Public Meetings
Yeah that makes sense. I was hoping instead of allowing one 25” fish per day they would include an option like they have for oversized redfish where you’re allowed one per year with an option to buy another bonus tag but make the oversize at 25” minimum length. Doesn’t look like that will happen.

Re: TPWD Sets Public Meetings
The changes are probably coming. 15-20 with a 3 fish limit. 1Trout over 25" being part of the daily bag. I do not agree with this proposal and have sent the needed replies. I will also be a the Rockport meeting on Jan. 9. My biggest issue is not allowing 20-25 to be retained at all. I think th...
