Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal

Oh, and I'd still be happy to toss the kayak on top the van and join a grass roots meet-up to legally park a few dozen cars on the public road in front of the houses and legally launch at the now blocked off access point. I don't see any no trespassing signs, just blocking vehicular traffic. Not mu...

Re: Sportsman Road Launch blocked!? What’s the deal

edit: Deleted hoopla about public road right-of-way and city abandoning roads. I originally thought this was the end of the road, not the little area that the city maintains as, basically, a park. There would almost certainly be a deed recorded in which the city conveys the land to a private land ow...

Prior to Freeze and Post Freeze, Your Thoughts?

My one wish for our trout is for folks to realize how sensitive they are. If you’re netting and putting your hands on them you’re removing their slime which does some serious damage. Lose the net, play the fish out and enjoy the fight, leave them in the water as much as possible, touch them as littl...

Re: Cold Enough For You?!

Ed Hirs from UH had some choice words about some of the generating plants closing shop and leaving the state because they couldn’t make any money the way it’s regulated here. So another issue is we barely make enough during peak times, so if some of the generators go offline we’re basically SOL.

34 degree water temps at the Galveston RR bridge this morning. That can’t be good

Re: Cold Enough For You?!

Regulations aside, if that many coastal fish die is it even worth fishing the coast? I’ll probably have to resort to driving up to one of the lakes to get my fix. Fingers crossed that they all found a deep mud hole to hide in until the end of the week. Anyone know if there’s a certain water temp tha...

Re: Anyone buy a Shimano Vanford?

I plan on getting one for my light trout rod this year and also considering the 1000 size. Huge fan of the latest Stradic, though I bought a bigger 5000 size for light offshore use. If this new ci4 is the same internals as the Stradic FL then it’s a no-brainer. I almost feel bad for the competitors ...

Re: Anyone find 3 rods in Galveston today?

Win for this great community! This actually happened to me at one of the Christmas Bay launches back in spring and I wasn't so lucky. Someone's sitting pretty with my high-end gear, but I bet the fishing gods aren't on their side this season.

Re: Thinking about new kayak

The Perception Pescador weighs around 64 lbs, it's going to be hard to find a significantly lighter kayak which will allow you to stand. My thoughts exactly. That old joke "I want a light kayak that's stable enough to stand, paddles fast, tracks well in wind, and is affordable" comes to m...

Why 14’? Are you thinking long, skinny and fast? Or stability?

Pedal?

Hobie PA 14, Jackson Kraken 13.5 or 15.5, native titan 13.5, hobie revo 13, just off the top of my head. I think feel free has option around 13’ too. I’m sure there are more in that range but there aren’t many that are exactly 14’

Re: Christmas Bay May 7th

Last fall I got under some working birds and ended up catching several big redfish under them. Thought for sure I’d be getting in to schoolie trout. I’ve had better luck in the marsh than the open bays recently, but it’s also been too windy to make bay fishing fun for me. Can’t remember the last tim...

Re: New to Salt Fishing and This Board ( Cypress, TX )

That kayak should actually be pretty good for the coast. For the baitcaster, I'd say start with the brakes tight , so that it wont cast it far but it also wont back lash. Then gradually lessen the tension. A lot of good areas on the upper coast. Brazoria county has a lot of good marsh fishing, look ...

Re: Drum Bay

I usually put in at one of the kayak launch points off blue water highway. There’s a couple to choose from that are easily seen on google earth. You definitely won’t be the only vehicle parked there on the weekend. The bay is small enough that you’ll easily cover it in the few days you’ll be there. ...

The guys at ACK can probably help you out with the rudder specifics, including installation, but I’m not sure if they’re open for business.

Re: First Kayak Questions

You get what you pay for in kayaks and paddles. $200 is about the fair price for a rudder. That is a big, wide, heavy kayak so I wouldn’t cheap out on a paddle. A good paddle makes a world of difference, especially when the wind kicks up, you’re 2 miles from the launch, and you’re already tired from...

Re: Left rods at Christmas bay

I left them around 4:30pm, returned 3 hours later and they were gone. There were a lot of waders that afternoon and they were probably gone 10 minutes after I left. My only hope is the kayaker I spoke with briefly who was loading his stuff into his F-150 around the time I left. Sent from my iPhone u...

Left rods at Christmas bay

Kind of a long shot, but I left my three favorite rods at the end of dolphin drive and if any TKF’r happened to grab them I’d be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Wow! That sure is tempting.

The way I interpret the rule, outdoor activities are a go, mind the social distancing.
