Re: Perception Pride
https://share.icloud.com/photos/0mvEsdrqvE_Mg1NDjiPzPJrJA That’s my brother with his aquaterra prism in the background. He bought it at canoesport in 94 or 95 and still uses it. It was the first yak I ever paddled and that day, somewhere near Santa Fe, with a limit of reds in an inaccessible marsh ...

Re: Strike King Redfish Magic Spinnerbait
I have had good luck on these spinnerbaits in murky water. I like the pearl white when fishing in a muddy marsh. I have not had much success in clear water, such as on the flats fishing potholes. Has anyone else done well with these baits in clear water situations? I have not had good luck in clear...

Never, ever do this at the launch
I was just reading a post in the saltwater forum that made me recall something I too learned the hard way. When launching or picking up at the end of the day never set things down on the ground. If you take it from your truck, put it directly in your yak. If you take it from your yak put it directly...

Re: Popping Cork Differences
Tombo gave me a cork about 8 or 9 years ago and I still use it. It's different than most in that it's got a weight suspended under it on a wire and a barrel swivel on top. Both the main line and the leader tie at the top of the cork. I have no idea of the brand as the color and writing have worn off...

Re: Lure Size Under What Conditions
The opposite holds true also. Watch the bait closely and you will see the smaller bait show up later this spring. Sometimes they will hit nothing but the tiny stuff. This is especially true when there are hoards of glass minnows or lots of tiny shrimp. Now, almost all the bait is larger finfish.

Re: What's been workin' for ya?
I had a good but strange day with some picky trout. I was fishing open bay along the edge of the intercoastal. The trout were in a very specific spot and only ate one of the 3 things I threw. I found spots with deep dark colored grass slightly deeper than the edge of the normal grass line. The fish ...

Re: Front Passage / marsh levels
Hot damn! Nice and cold this morning! Next one rolls through Friday. Word on the reefs is the all-you-can-eat shrimp fest is about to open. Anticipation among the fishes is higher than when those idiots line up to buy the latest sneaker for $1,000 a pair. Time to put some fresh lime on the spools a...

Cow-nosed rays and redfish
I've always wondered if reds follow schools of cow noses Rays like they follow sting rays. I've casted around schools and never caught any though. I've casted in front of a school and will never do that again(unless I'm really bored). The other day, just when a friend and I were quitting at sundown ...

Anyone ever pull a trailer over yarborough pass? The trailer is light but I'm worried that with the tires riding in the ruts that the axle will drag low through the sand. Any tips or suggestions?

Re: Confusing Tides and Low,Dirty Water in Matagorda
The only advice I can offer is that wind affects tides. Sounds simple, right. Not so much. This past week we had 3 days and nights of winds that never got below 20 mph. Those winds are going to push water somewhere. The problem is that every location and every wind direction is different so you have...

Re: Wake baits
Thanks for the ideas. I have never used any of the lures described although I've heard of some. My brother uses the Redfins with good success for larger trout and I thought about the manns but they seemed pretty light also. There are a lot of wakebaits deaingned for largemouth fishing, some of which...

Re: East Bay Bayou Produces - 4/7/17
Dandydon, when they replace your rudder cable, ask for the old one and a couple of copper crimps. That along with a pair of pliers makes an easy repair kit to fix those cables on the water. I started carrying that after having to use my paddle to steer on a multi day trip.

Wake baits
I've had a lot of fun with hunchbacks over the last two years. Unfortunately last fall all they wanted was the smallest one and that thing is a pain in the ass to throw. It got me wondering what other wakebaits are out there. What have y'all had success with? The only other one I've tried was an h2o...

Re: Baffin last week
Fished under a oval Cajun thunder cork. I popped pretty aggressively, took up the slack, waited and popped again. Sometimes I let it sit after pops for a bit and quite a few of the strikes came after long pauses. I think the lack of water clarity gave he fish a bit of trouble locating the bait.

Baffin last week
I was lucky enough to be able to fish two mornings in Baffin Bay last week. Just the mornings because of other commitments and we were blown off by 1100 or so anyway. I didn't not mind the wind, I usually find ways to work with it. However, the wide openness of the east facing shoreline didn't give ...

Re: What is your experience: artificials vs live shrimp and big trout?
As trout age, their diet changes. Read the first three sentences under license history here: http://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/strout/ Does that mean that a big trout won't eat a shrimp? Of course not. However, it's no not accident that the big trout guys almost exclusively throw large, fi...

Good report, thanks for posting. That low tide definitely concentrates the fish around there. Wish I could get down and take advantage.

Re: Anyone have any luck with the YUM Money Minnows?
Like anything, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I would think they would be great for big trout especially in the winter. I've never tried them for that though. I have used them on shallow flats in the fall for reds and at times they are great. I like that you can retrieve them slowly o...

Re: When do you throw popping corks?
Muddy water and high water are the times I use it most. I also throw it along channel edges or blindcasting wide open flats. I move around a lot when I fish from my yak and I generAlly move faster than I can fish a cork effectively. If I am drifting though I will try a cork. It probably accounts for...

Re: Aransas Pass..where to stay
Sea breeze cottages has two room cabins and you can back your trailer in by he side for a bit of security. It is on 361 right at ransom road so it is close to a launch point to get to ransom flats.

Re: Question for native kayak dealers or users
Rich, that is an awesome idea. It would be a super simple part to print and I have another available because I have two of these yaks. If I am unable to find one through Native I will definitely try that out. I think the results will be better than my plan of fabricating the part from aluminum. Than...
