Re: Buying Used Without Test Driving
Signs of bad storage here in Texas are usually going to be caused by too much sun. "Oil canning", (serious). Color fading, (aesthetic). Bungies that don't stretch. (easily replaceable).

Re: Is Tying a Necessary Evil, Something You Absolutely Enjoy, or Somewhere in Between?
I love the creative aspect of tying and being able to drill down exactly what that fish wants on that particular day. I do think it makes you a better fly fisherman as you have a clearer understanding of how that fly behaves in the water and why. It is easy like any other hobby to go overboard and e...

Re: Weakened fluorocarbon after a big fish
I think Karstopo may be onto it. A bad batch or out of date spool. IMO Fluorocarbon ages worse than Mono.

Re: East Flats - November 6, 2021
East Flats has become my favorite spot over the years. If for no other reason that it often produces in a north wind when most other places are as quiet as a mouse pissing on cotton. I started out by working the leeward shoreline of Pelone and 50 yards in, I had spooked two and caught one at 18 inch...

Re: Lighthouse Lakes - October 7, 2020
That may be the most work for one 20 inch Red I've ever done! For the past three days, every decent fish was usually within about 30 feet of a shoreline so that was my plan. work the windward shores, work the leeward shores. Work the back channels. I did all of that with nothing on the stringer. Sin...

Re: Estes Flats - October 6, 2020
For me it was another one of those early success that burns time days. As we first got out to the point on Talley I pulled up to work a few cast. This spot is normally pretty good for me and sometines is the only thing that works at Estes. Had a rat red on the second cast and a 16 trout on th...

Re: East Flats - October 5, 2020
I believe this is the first time I have ever been skunked at East Flats. (I forgot to wear my lucky fish hook necklace.   ). The hog was fun. When he saw me turn towards him, he turned back to the shore he just left but I was able to quickly run him down in the Tarpon to get a pic....

My best day of the trip if I'm just counting fish. The reds were caght on the 4th and 5th cast respectivly and I thought, "hell, this is going to be my fastest limit yet!" JINX! :horse: Worked that same water for the next 40 minutes with not a nibble. Worked around some of the other ...

Re: Planning and Thoughts ahead of Fishing Trip
Might be interesting to show how each day played out. Adjustments made on the fly. How each of us approached the conditions. For me I have delt with the occasional N/NE wind but nothing like what we had this week. The real difficulty was just finding fish. Few were in their usual haunts. The only pa...

Absolutely check the tides before heading into the back of LHL. It's a long hike out when dragging a kayak.

Re: Fluorocarbon line
Another consideration with Fluoro vs Mono is that Mono floats. Fluorocarbon sinks. If you are using Mono on a lightweight lure it can be pulling it to the surface more then you want.

A good day on the water and a wonderful night to celebrate good friends and family. Smoked a pre embargo cuban in honor of several fishing friends we lost this year. I'm sure their spirits were with us.

Great report Ron! Good to see your dad still plugging away. I remember the good time I had fishing with him way back when. What year was that?
