Re: Dirty Pelican Saturday's Report

First off, it was great to see everyone on Saturday. We could not have asked for better sea conditions....Very little surf and virtually no waves. The no wind however, made it quite hot for this big boy and I paid a big price for it (more on that later). Mike, congrats on your awesome bull shark. Sh...

Re: McFaddin 3-11 Report

Congrats on getting the skunk off Mike. Always good to get the first reds in the boat. I played hooky from work yesterday and took JW down to Sargent for some beach action sans kayak :(. He caught the family's first bull red of the season, a nice 37"er on fresh whiting. Hope to see y'all on the...

Huntingarcher, you hit the nail on the head. That's what I was thinking through out my meetings all day Wednesday and Thursday, LOL. But at least y'all left a few scraps for me today. My next few weekends are full with Kids sports and a Church Youth group trip. Hopefully the seas will lay down and y...

Thanks Copperfish and Mike. I though there would be a better turn out. But there were other yakkers there, just not sure if they were TKF'ers. Hope the guy who stayed in the water to shore is OK. I also thought the strong wind wouldn't hit til later today. But you know.....Gotta make hay when you ca...

Re: Looking to become an Islander, need some advice

Ross,

I think FTU is having a kayak demo day at Cross Creek Ranch in outside Katy from 2-6 on Saturday. I think their ad stated they would have Hobies, but you might have to check to see if they will have either an AI or a TI there.

Friday 10/25 McFaddin Report - Big Waves, Big Fish

With all the fish caught Wednesday and Thursday this week, I was chomping at the bit to get a piece of the action. Weather predictions were dicey, but I decided to hit the coast anyway (I packed some surf gear in case I could not launch) Others had posted that they were coming down as well, so I fig...

Re: Wildfires at McFaddin

I fished there this morning. Driving down before dawn I could see the flames. But being from Louisiana, I just figured they were burning sugarcane. Started out with NE winds and the smoke was thick on the paddle out. Then the wind switched to the SE and the air was clear. Not until I got off the wat...

Re: McFaddin Open Invite Fri 10/25

I plan on being there Friday morning. Yak'n'Aggie, I will plan to launch around the first set of metal gates past the McFaddin Refuge sign. Will start off a little deep (14-15') in hopes of finding some toothy critters, but the reds have been consistently caught in waters less than 10'. Hope to see ...

Mike,

Do you know if Rick at SeaPony has the legal sized mullet? What does the law say about mullet larger than 12" that I have in my freezer from previous trips this year?

Well done Guys!!!!!! great day and glad y'all got on them. Love seeing those schools of big reds close to the beach.

I am thinking of playing hooky tomorrow and getting down there myself. But the forecasts are kinda mixed. Oh well, may just go down and surf fish for a while if nothing else.

Glenn, That is truly a most memorable trip. I have heard of a couple makos caught from the beach in TX (Oz's fish comes to mind), but never one from a yak. So very cool. That bull shark was also a BEAST. loved the footage.

Re: OCT. 19 BULL RED TOURNEY (HIGH ISLAND, TX)

Now that I am hearing there is a weigh in, I am little concerned. I have to get more infomation. Considering the numbers of redfish we have been catching, and the fact they are all oversize, A Bull Red tourney where the fish are weighed at the beach gives me the impression that the fishermen involve...

This sounds like alot of fun. My son has a Baseball Tourney that weekend (but Saturdays are just pool play with Sunday being the actual tournament), so I may have to miss the Sat games.

Look forward to getting more information on the event.

Re: released fish (MYTHMAN and all others)

Mike,

I have been thinking the same thing since I caught my fish. I have e-mailed the folks who contacted me to see if there is any interest in setting up a program to supply some of us with tags to tag our HI BR's. I for one would not mind tagging some fish.

Re: I finally got some information back on my tagged redfish

I'm actually surprised they got back with you. I don't know much about tagging fish, but does it seem strange how that long rusty pin tag was lodged into its gut? Actually, the entire tag is plastic and would therefore (theoretically) last the lifespan of the fish. The red base was lodged under the...

Yup, sounds like a reel maintenance/tackle rigging weekend for me too. Just ordered some Carbontex drag washers from Smooth Drag and hope they arrive before the weekend so I can install in the Saltists and Penn Spinfishers.
