I think that such a craft as has been illustrated would work perfectly in most freshwater lakes in and around Texas.
However, looking at the bottom of a plastic kayak used, even occasionally, in Gulf coast shallow water, would, in my opinion, discourage me from using an inflatable for that purpose.

LOL!
Add another advantage to my weird quirk of catch and release. I don't have to worry about no stinkin' limits.
I haven't kept a spec I've landed for over twenty years.

I only fished Jones lake once. Conditions were unfavorable due to very muddy water and high wind. Your post makes me regret never having given it another try. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Re: *****BOB HALL PIER - BTB, June 29th, SATURDAY, 2024*****
Yakaty Yak, As one of the earliest SOT kayakers, I am amazed at how far the sport has come. We used to consider a PACK week-end camp-out with six to eight participants to be a large group. The numbers have, of course, grown exponentially. My kayaking days are over, but I remained an active kayak fis...

Re: N. Lake Conroe - Cagle Launch - 3/3/24
I'm a terrible bass fisherman. Just never devoted much time to it.
Having fished Conroe a couple of times, with zero luck, I am glad to see that it's a productive lake for those willing to put in the effort. Thanks for sharing that great report.

We've driven through San Angelo several times on our way west. The kayaking areas are surely well hidden, because I never saw any water near San Angelo.

As a long time paddle enthusiast, I purchased, out of curiosity, one of the first wilderness systems peddle drive kayaks. Although the boat was a work in progress, I had no problems with its operation or construction. I was more than pleased with the peddle system itself. The energy required was, ov...

I made that run a while back. Lots of fun, but the water was pretty muddy due to recent rain. No luck fishing.

An 8wt rod made for me by Ken Murph, with my favorite Loop reel. Various clousers, and 'Slowride made' spoons for the trout. Red fish smack ('Let's Go' design) for the back water reds.

Re: Arroyo Trip
I also appreciated the arroyo area fishing. The big trout were abundant and usually hungry. Fishing the clear lagoon flats was akin to sight fishing in the Caribbean waters for bones and permit. The most fun ('mostest' in texican) was fly fishing for schoolies and small snook under the lights when t...

Dave, I have time on my hands and would be glad to service your reels for you. I recently totally dismantled and serviced my cousin's favorite reel and only had two parts left over. They were very small parts.

Thanks, wittich,
I've got dozens of clousers, but nary a one, bob banger. Will tie up 4 0r 5 this week.
Bangers should be great for specs and reds.

Over the past many, many years (?) I've owned and used, and miss used, the heck out of several shimano reels from the less expensive to the most. I pretty much used Shimano reels exclusively before going almost to full time fly fishing. I've never found them not to be other than silky smooth and rel...

Re: Frog Pattern
The only tine I'be used a frog fly was on a golf course "lake" in Dallas. The bass were small, but they attacked the fly voraciously. The giant blue gills also thought it a delightful lunch.
Your fly looks awesome. It should please the hungry bass wherever you fish.

I suppose I could say that I've caught my share of reds during the past many years. However, I've never come close to boating anything close to your 25 pounder on a fly rod. From my point of view I consider your accomplishment to be monumental. Thanks for sharing both pics and dialogue.

You reminded me of a hilarious true story about ling fishing. My banker asked me to to take him on my next fishing trip. He had never been fishing off shore, and said it was at the top of his bucket list. I arranged for a charter, and my partner, my banker, and I took to the high seas one beautiful,...

It's understandable in today's scientifically advanced world, that there are many who have no interest in faith based institutions. Yet, one who demeans, in any way, those who do diligently practice a religion, is proof positive that they are not all that convinced that there is not something far gr...
