Thanks for the offer Preacher. But he needs January delivery.
I put him in contact with one TX builder so far.

Re: Texas paddler needs help with a build
He's in the Dallas area. But was willing to drive to me in North Carolina to pick up the kayak if I were to build it.
Wants to pick up in Jan.

Texas paddler needs help with a build
Hello all. Been a while since I've come around. I was contacted and asked to build one of my designs for a Texas customer who wanted then to come pick it up and use in the 2015 Safari. I'm in the middle of a house remodel and it seems a little silly for him to drive all the way to NC when there's lo...

Re: What structural foam?
There is a big difference between structural construction foam and marine foam designed for boats. It also costs much more--more than the wood. Amen. You're talking 3-4 times more expensive. I played with a small piece and it's much more flexible than wood. If building in thin strips, you'd probabl...

Re: What structural foam?
One thing to be mindful of: On large boats, foam core is great because the structural benefits you get from a thick composite sandwich (fiberglass skin-foam-fiberglass skin). Keep in mind the fiberglass skins are very thick compared to paddled craft. On smaller boats using foam core, you loose the p...

Darrell, I noticed one problem that needs immediate correction:
You're out of balance!! You'll need another Bud Light can on the opposite side of the bench. Then maybe some on the back of the table....

Re: Kayak Design for heavier newbe
Definitely find something that can handle your projected max payload AND still handle like a paddle craft should. Drives me nuts seeing canoes rated for 900 lbs and what they are not telling you is you'll have maybe 3" before the water starts coming over the sides and that it will handle like a...

Re: Plywood Strip Boat?
I thought about this (stripping with ply) except with 2" wide strips. The purpose would be to get the look of the old planked canoes. But there's an issue: The planked canoes were built around steel reinforced molds and the wood planking was steam bent in 2 directions: longitudinally (shape of ...

Re: more epoxy questions
Duck Works sells a couple different brand. If it's the same exact brand, then mixing hardeners should not be an issue. Many times, vendors only really provide fast and slow cure rate hardeners. They just mix the 2 to create "medium".
Give the manufacturer a call if you're not 100% sure.

Re: Wye 13-6 continued
From what I figure, el cheapo ply from the big box stores weighs about 20% more than marine quality okoume. Also, I believe he used 5mm ply which is thicker than needed since he glassed inside and out. So had 4mm okoume been selected, the weights would have been closer together. Now that being said,...

Re: Standing Up In Small Boats.
I bought a book on outrigger canoes and started fooling around with a design. I look at using lobster buoys at the end of a simple aluminum pole. Strap it to the deck with some bungees. That would be good if you paddled to a spot and wanted to stand up and stay there. Kind of bulky to store when not...

Hey JEM! (Matt...right?) How'ya doing? I believe you were well represented by some boats at the Roundup. Well done. Keep up the good work. Re: Standing Up In Small Boats.
I'd like to join in this one if I may. I believe the ability to stand is a function of the paddler/stander as it is the boat. As you can see Pogo has a very good sense of balance. Me, I can do it in some canoes, but it's a "puckering" experience. I've had occasion where I wanted to get a h...

The circle lock hatches are all Hobie hatches. The front one is a Cobra "A hatch. I think I told a few at the meet it was Hobie, but it's Cobra. They're hard to find, but can be ordered online. The screw in deckplates are Atwood, if I remember right. It has a hobie anchor trolley too. The rudd...
