Some of the most memorable times with my son were spent on kayaks. As mentioned by others, I started him out in a Tarpon 120. I think he was 10 and a pretty big 10 year old. One of the 10 foot yaks might be a good choice.

If the outback is the right kayak for you, it will be a good BTB kayak for you. By that I mean that you should try the outback first to make sure it is a good fit. Your height and weight may help to determine that. My son used an outback for 2 years of BTB fishing. He is 6' 2" and about 190lbs....

The safety benefits stand alone and should be convincing enough. The entertainment factor of having one is great, too. It's fun to talk to others every now and then on the water. When it is really fun is when you start hearing "fish on" all over the place.
