Re: First trip BTB with my son!!!
Congrats. I started taking my son at 12. He turned into a real pro after a very short time. Kayaking BTB is one of the things that I attribute our strong relationship to. You and your son are in for the time of your lives! Enjoy!

Re: Kids in kayaks
Some of the most memorable times with my son were spent on kayaks. As mentioned by others, I started him out in a Tarpon 120. I think he was 10 and a pretty big 10 year old. One of the 10 foot yaks might be a good choice.

Re: McFaddin Saturday 9/6
I got to test drive one a couple of weeks ago back in the bays. With the battery and motor you only have the front storage just have to make that up in the rigging. The good thing was we were about a mile from the launch and the head wind had kicked up to 17-20 mph. You know what that would have be...

Re: Micro Skiff?
I'm getting ready to list 2 Solo Skiffs complete with trailer, outboards, trolling motors / batteries, customized ice chest / rod holders, and other items that go along with it. These are fantastic boats and I am going to regret selling them. This is a pic of them from a BTB trip this year. The trol...

2 free stickers
All these posts about folks needing stickers made me look in my office for extras. I have 2 TKF stickers that I will give away to the first 2 guys to post that they want one. 1 sticker per person. If I have stamps, they will go out tomorrow. I imagine this contest will be over in a few minutes...goo...

Re: hobie outback
If the outback is the right kayak for you, it will be a good BTB kayak for you. By that I mean that you should try the outback first to make sure it is a good fit. Your height and weight may help to determine that. My son used an outback for 2 years of BTB fishing. He is 6' 2" and about 190lbs....

Re: Importance of VHF radio....?
The safety benefits stand alone and should be convincing enough. The entertainment factor of having one is great, too. It's fun to talk to others every now and then on the water. When it is really fun is when you start hearing "fish on" all over the place.

Re: Gator Hole on High Island
The general area is located 5 or 6 miles down McFaddin beach. I haven't heard of anyone going that far down in quite a while. I never fished there, but I know that Mythman, Bigfost, TJ and many others used to fish there quite a bit right before I got into BTB fishing. I remember their reports. This ...

This shark really sells the need for the wire leader. That would probably have been a bite-off otherwise. Congrats on the great day! This was probably my biggest shark, which was only about 5 1/2 ft long. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/mythman27/2014%20Fishing/7-30%20McFaddin/P1030224...

Re: Dirty Pelican Saturday's Report
During that time, I thought I hydrated enough. I also carry a potassium salt to help with muscle cramping. Well the combination of me being heavier again, the heat, the exercise and not adequately hydrating caused my muscled to severely cramp up. When the group moved to 12' of water, I did not even...

Re: Dirty Pelican Saturday's Report
Trey and I had a great day on the water. This was the maiden voyage for our Solo Skiffs BTB. I had been watching the forecast and crystal beach webcam for a couple of days and everything was looking pretty good for Saturday. I got a PM from Bigfost that put me over the edge. It was on for Saturday! ...
