Good morning everyone, wanted to get some opinions on fishing East Matagorda Bay via a kayak. Planning a fishing trip with a buddy tomorrow out to Sargent and he probably won't arrive until late morning or early afternoon so I figured I might as well take my kayak too and paddle into the far East side of East Matagorda Bay.
Just seeing if its mostly a safe spot to kayak at or not.

Thanks for the reply shoffer! I was thinking of driving my car along the beach past Docking Park and launching from somewhere around hereshoffer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 10:19 am It is. Figured it would be easier to launch there to reduce the amount of paddling and give me more time on the water instead of launching from Docking Park. I would fish the far East part of the bay and probably target the mouth of the cut and the mouths of bay from the ICW and cut then just hit near the shores. Just hoping the bait shops will have live shrimp. Not the best with lures and artificials.

Re: East Matagorda Bay
Trip was successful since I was able to launch and make it to my destination without flipping or losing any gear. I did not fish from my kayak too much cuz I found a really nice spot on a bank. The spot was full of reeds and enterance that was about 3 to 4 feet deep. I fished for about an hour and nabbed the following:
2 juvenile reds
5 or 6 croakers
Several crabs
1 unknown species
Went back later and fished the cut with my buddy right before.the tide got really low. We both laughed nabbed a. Flounder and as for that he got skunked whereas I landed two more reds both juveniles as well and a couple more croaker than one stinking calf top. Oh, and more crabs
