Day three we found ourselves with a noticeable spike in the wind from the north. On paper it would be the windiest of the trip; and it was. We went to East Flats on Mustang Island. Today's group consisted of Andy, William, Dale, Ron, Steve, Nina, and myself.
Oh today would also mark the start of rain. Which we launched into.
Though the rain didn't last too long.
Though it was always threatening to unleash on us all day.
Since we had higher tides (though, thankfully not as high as last year's trip), we paddled farther up Island Moorings Channel to fish a flat you generally can't. We were greeted with a couple big black drum tailing and 100's of cow nose stingrays. Early on I landed my only keeper of the day, a trout.
Not much to write about this day as the wind really kicked our butts. We were off the water around 1 pm. The group's stringer count was 2 reds and 4 trout. It was a windy grind for today. (1 red/1 trout for Ron, 2 trout for Andy, 1 red for Nina, and 1 trout for myself)
It's not all play on these trips. Sometimes work has to get completed, like breaking down and cleaning reels.
Dinner tonight was at Moondog's. Sadly, their draft system was down, so no big draft beers for the group.
So with that, plus a tough day on the water we broke out some more bottles that evening.
I'll edit in the meteorological data later, but here's the GPS track for the day.

Re: East Flats - Oct 4th, 2024
Never made the effort to clean the rain spots from my camera lens, though the cloud cover lasted all morning and was welcome.
My camera aiming back at Josh and Nina.
I caught too many rats early, and finally after a drift from the most windward point (check Josh's GPS trail), I landed a 16" trout.
Farther downwind along Pelone Is. picked up a keeper red.
Andy and I made the tough exposed beam-reach paddle across East Flats to get back to the canals, and took a breather before our last leg in the canals.
Moon Dog's received mixed reviews, though you can always count on their soft-shell crab BLT.
