Interesting, it might fit the hatch from h_ll, but I just sit upright and hold my paddle in my lap or use an umbrella.
BTW did you notice that those shots are of SINKs and canoes? Don't think I saw an SOT in there.

They're high dollar for sure, you can buy a good paddle for that price. I wonder how log it'll take before someone on TKF makes their own version of it?

Cool idea though.

I used one down in Florida and got to say it was pretty cool, strictly a down winder but fun.

Already done. I occasionally use a golf umbrella and have heard of several others that do. I have not seen anyone with a "window" but I have seen several homemade sails.

I also have tried an umbrella. Its fun feeling the tug of the wind and just cruising downwind. I have trolled downwind with an umbrella with my paddle across my lap. Steering is accomplished by shifting position of the umbrella and occasionally dipping a paddle blade in the water. Having a rudder would be a big help. I have wanted to try this btb trolling a lure for anything that might bite, but have not done it yet. A folded umbrella fits neatly in a crate rod holder out of the way and deploys quickly. Bottom line though is I have owned sailboats in the past and if I wanted to sail, I would get another sailboat.

If you have any experience or knowledge about tacking in a sailboat I think You can make it work with more than just a straight tailwind. I keep a golf umbrella inside the hull of my yak at all times (it is also good for a hot, sunny day with no wind). I try to stay aware of the wind direction and use the "sail" only to get back to where I put in rather than to get where I want to fish. I have a pretty slow yak and it can take me an hour to paddle 2 miles. If the wind is brisk I can cover that in 15 or 20 minutes with my improvised sail (and have at least 30 minutes more fishing!). I dont play around with it much; I have only used it to buy extra fishing time.

I have also seen some people using a kite and I am gonna give that a try soon.

I ALWAYS plan my fishing trips to head up wind going and down wind on the return. For the past three years, my vented golf umbrella is close at hand.
I usually tend to over extend myself when fishing, and the trip home under umbrella power, feet propped up, and cigar in mouth takes the pain out of the entire trip.

comes in handy on those August/Sept. windless days as a sun shield.
