Good places to kayak in Austin for Saturday?

Post by TUNDRA786 »

The weather is showing that its going to be windy with a 10% chance of rain.

we have 3 kayaks(two are tandems) We will have more then 5 people so we will probably go out for 1hr-2hrs and come back to give the kayaks to other family memebers.

Things to consider:
We want to be able to explore but come back to the starting point.
A decent park.

I've heard that theres a body of water fed by a hot spring there that is very nice. Is that a good area to kayak?

keep in mind the group im taking has only been on a kayak once or twice.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have never heard of any kind of hot spring near Austin, just very cold ones. Town lake, now called Ladybird Lake is nice for an urban kayak lake. It is the impounded Colorado river in the downtown area. There are several access points around. Check out the map section on this forum-

I'd say lake bastrop. They have a nice park that the others can enjoy while you're out. And they rent Kayaks & Conoes at the south park so y'all can get more people out on the water at a time.

Ditto on Lady Bird Lake...and if you get hungry you can paddle over to Joe's Crab Shack.

Right now I would suggest a jig and plastic or drop shotting. The bass are going to be deep and slow.

Bastrop is warm in Winter & HOT in summer due to power plant generation; Decker in Austin is also a power plant lake w/ a park; Alcoa at Rockdale is very warm. Ferguson power plant at Lake LBJ generates hot water and produces Smallmouth

I have caught fish at all.
