Went out to Jonestown Park for the second time to fish the area and ran into GRR who kindly showed me an easier place to launch from. We talked about lures, tackle and he pointed out a couple of spots. I fished for about two hours and picked up 5 small bass along the cliff side between the boat docks. Water was really low in Travis. We need a monsoon. Hope to get out fishing somewhere again soon.

I was wondering if you were still fishing Chavez. I hadn't seen an update since Easter on your blog. Hope everything is going well.

Hey Bill! Still around. Been busy with family activities every weekend and so just been wishing I could be fishing until last weekend. Not sure about this coming weekend since my wife is going out of town. Maybe sometime in June will get out again.

Hey GRR,

We have a drainage canal near the house so we get snakes from time to time around the yard, mostly black necked garter snakes which I know are harmless but sometimes we see a diamond backed water snake or yellow bellied water snake. On the last two, the first time I encountered them I terminated them because I wasn't sure if the first was a rattlesnake and the other a moccasin. Those dad protective instincts just kick in. Now I try to look closer if I can because at one point my neighbor had a shed infested with rats that would come over at night and eat the peaches and a tangerines off our trees so I try not kill any snakes now to keep that in check. But if I ever see a real rattler, it will probably meet its demise. I have several little ones and dogs to watch out for.

Oh I forgot to add, one weekend that I was out of town several years ago, my wife encountered a kingsnake by the garbage can outside. It was well over 4 feet long. She call the city which connected her to the CP police department which at the time was very close to our neighborhood. Rather than send out animal control, they decided an officer could handle it. One came out, took a look at the long black snake and said, "Heck no" and called the animal control guy to come out and take it off the property. My understanding was the animal control guy just walked over down a dead end street that had no development or houses on it yet and released it there.
