Thursday, San Gabe
Thursday, San Gabe
Open invitation for Thursday afternoon to fish the San Gabriel, starting at the Primitive Launch north of Taylor.
Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Just so you guys know, between A&A and I, we caught around 4 dozen whites and a few crappie.
Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Wish l could join, but the in-laws are coming to town Thurs, hoping to sneak out early on Fri morning, won't have a lot of time, so probably won't take the yak, debating on the steps vs spillway.
A week ago Sun, went up river from the primitive launch and got skunked. Sounds like they might be running now, what are you using for bait?
Good luck, let us know how you do.

Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Ok, I gotta go there, you guys are killing me, I want to fish/kayak that river so badly .... I just e-mailed the US Army Corps of Engineers ...
"I need a map of the San Gabriel River showing where the Brazos River Authority ends and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parts begin. Not where the dams form Lake Granger and Lake Georgetown, but mostly showing the upper end away from the dams. I don’t want to accidently be going too far with my concealed handgun which is legal on the river, except on USACOE property.
Thank you."

Hi RPB, I am actually following your thread about this on texaschlforum.com. Thanks for checking! I also saw a photo in the thread that I took while paddling Blue Hole some years back. Pretty cool!RPB wrote:Ok, I gotta go there, you guys are killing me, I want to fish/kayak that river so badly .... I just e-mailed the US Army Corps of Engineers ...

Re: Thursday, San Gabe
lol thanks (You take gooder pitchers than I do )
I'll post the reply I got today ... ( After which I emailed the Senators and congressmen ... as well as Senator Tester in Montana who is working with Kay Hutcheson on some issues)
I'm specifically asking about parking in the parking area at say Tejas Park, and other parking areas of the USACOE parks, Lakes, etc. with a concealed handgun in the car under Texas Motorist Protection Act, since ANYONE (almost) could fall in that catagory of accidently going onto USACOE property with a gun in their car, and parking at one of their parks.
----------
Your inquiry was forwarded to me for response. Attached are detailed maps showing the approximate location of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers boundary at the western and eastern limits. Some of these areas are not fenced. All other areas of the boundary are fenced. These are shown on the lake map at the following link: http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/george ... n/Maps.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. At Granger Lake the wildlife management areas are licensed to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for hunting areas, but ownership is retained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. You may contact the Granger Lake Manager at James.D.Chambers@usace.army.mil for more information. Thank you for your interest in Lake Georgetown.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
District Engineer
CC: Honorable Representative K. Michael Conaway
CC: Senator John Cornyn
CC: Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
CC: Senator Tester
Please advise how to go about contacting the District Engineer. And what forms need to be filled out, if any.
As of May 27, 2007 there were 8,911,818 cars in Texas.
According to the regulation below, we each need written permission from the District
Engineer to park our cars (which legally contain concealed handguns under Texas Penal
Code Sec. 46.02) in the parking areas of on U.S. Army Corps of engineers parks and
recreation areas.
I imagine all the Concealed Handgun Licensees will also need written permission.
(Active License Holders 314,574 as of 12/31/2008, but many thousands more since Obama got into office)
I'll have my request filed as soon as I get your reply, and a list of what information
or documents are required to obtain it.
Also. I'll be as helpful as possible and publish the District Engineer's address, so that millions of us may
EACH be able to request written permission and be able to visit your parks and lakes legally without needing to check our guns from our cars at the gate.
I don't want to end up in a cell next to that Fort Hood Shooter, for carrying a gun I have a license to carry on the river, on U.S. ARMY COE Lake property to protect myself from a rattlesnake trying to bite me.
A couple years ago a man was found shot to death at the Burnet County Park's boat ramp, I prefer to take protection along when I go fishing, so I want to be sure to avoid any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes and parks until i get the required written permission to have one at least in my car, which I can legally have nearly anywhere in Texas..
Thank you.

Re: Thursday, San Gabe
What time are you heading out, and what are you fishing with live bait or lures. Has the flow increased with the rain in the last 24 hours?
Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Well, please don't shoot me when you're out there, I'll gladly give up the info! I was fishing upriver from the launch quite a ways using primarily a white roostertail. Caught the few crappie on a white curly-tail jig. Not sure about today's rain affecting the flow, I'll just have to see it when I get there.
Re: Thursday, San Gabe
LOL
Guess they don't want the fishies dynomited either
I have no intention of shooting anyone or anything critter snake or otherwise, unless I'd have to, to protect someone. I have had encounters 7 robbers with guns at various times with a couple guns at my head, and I never shot anyone yet because using my brain and words is generaly the best way, but the time a couple robbers had 3 of us lay on the ground while they stood over us with their guns could have turned out differently nowadays where they prefer to not leave witnesses.
I'm just trying to keep legal people out of trouble. Licensed or not.

So are you saying we can NOT park our cars which contain a legally concealed handgun under Texas Law, in the parking area of a USACOE park in Texas even if it is leased to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, unless I have written permission from the District Engineer? Are you saying that I can be in my kayak drift fishing in Brazos River Authority, San Gabriel River, that you have no sign stating that I am now entering a USCOE Lake where firearms are prohibited unless I have written permission, but I'm supposed KNOW where that imaginary line is?
Also, when entering one of the Parks or recreation areas, are there gates where we leave our guns from our cars and pick them up on the way out? Where along the rivers should we leave them and pick them up from our boats and canoes and kayaks?
Thank you.
Sorry, I'll stop posting why I am not allowed to fish or park my car there and continue on TexasCHLforum, although it applies to anyone with any firearm in their car even if they have no license.
Maybe next year I'll see y'all up there .... hollar if you come to any of the LCRA Highland lakes, Buchannan, Marble Falls, Inks Lake, LBJ, and I'll join you.
Now, back to the original programming ....

Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Bite was sparse. Managed to keep 3 whites over 11 inches out of 7 fish caught.
Re: Thursday, San Gabe
Went this morning to the spillway and the steps, nothing, nada, zilp, zilch, etc, etc. A few people were catching a few but the bite was no where near being considered decent.
