finally done with it.... got a place for paddles and my shovel, a spare mount. got lights on it, and of course my hunting permit!!! really like this one, im not sure what fenders to put on it....but that can wait

You can pull the rack off and into the out-building go the yaks and the 4x4 on for hunting season then when the snow gets really deep on goes the snowmobile. I Like.

We made a rack that can be put on or taken off a regular 5 X 8 lawn mower trailer. That way I don't have to have another trailer to store Holds 4 yaks, 2 upside down and 2 right side up fully rigged.

Hey, I'm new to TKF and kayak fishing. Here's mine. I know it's a little over the top, but I'm a bear for detail and design. Been working on it this summer. Almost done. Need some type of way to lock up paddles and stake out sticks. Taking it out for it's debut trip next week.

That is what I have been thinking about and planning to build with a couple changes.

I was thinking of a "tree" style rack to carry yaks or our Scout canoes when need be.
All I need to find now is a nice aluminum trailer that I can use for hauling the quads on during hunting season.

For this that have built their own, or anyone with input:

I'm in the planning stages of a scratch built trailer, and am looking at spring options. Has anyone looked into torsion axles or stubs? They seem to be recommended for very lightweight trailers to keep the bouncing down. Also offer independent suspension for offroading.

All the trailers I've seen, including the malones, use leaves. What rate are people using? I was thinking of staying in the 600lb range. Anyone used heavier and had bouncing issues? Slipper or double eyes and shackles?

Plans are to run 5 lug hubs and 37-39" tires, as my jeep runs on 38's and my truck has a pretty tall bumper mounted ball. They're unsprung weight, but would tires that big need to be considered in axle choice?

Trailer will be welded steel with some e-metal storage.

Loading a t160 on top of my truck once was enough!

I've got a boat trailer here I was going to use, but I think I'm going to go with the torsion axles instead myself: fewer parts to "rust up", etc.: you can get some more clearance with springs, but that's the only plus I can see, and that can be "solved" in the building of the trailer..
Yes, you definitely need to consider the tire weight: a lot of the lighter spindles just can't handle the rolling load, to say nothing of the cost of a 37-39" tire for the trailer. Unless you've got a real need for those big tires, I'd say no way: that hitch height can be taken care of in a lot of other ways..

Fishingdrone, yours is on 37's, any idea which hubs are used? Looks like 5on4.5' same as tj lug pattern. Reason for big tires is part loose sand float ability, and I could use my jeep spare for both. Big used mt tires aren't too expensive, and fairly abundant in jeep circles, a set of four 39.5's for $80 on cl recently. Oh, and they're cool...

Being toed by my 3 cylinder gas guzzling metro I want it light as possible. The jetski trailer springs don't have much flex with a boat and cargo of about 100lbs.

Mabe foamed trailer bunks?

I would think shocks, like the ones with coil springs off an ATV would smooth out the ride.

just take off a leaf from your jet ski trailer, itll smooth out

Shocks alone won't keep it from bouncing. I think you're talking about a coil-over type setup on the ATVs, but that would require major suspension redesign on your trailer.

Measure your springs eye to eye and see if you can find lighter rated springs for the trailer. I got my light springs here, but there are lots of sources: http://www.truckspring.com/trailer-part ... rings.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can also take some air out of the tires so they don't bounce so much.

well theres only two leafs there, it might be really bouncy, but hey its free to try....i know mine had 2 at one time and it was too soft.

but your trailer looks light, so just give it a try....its not all that hard.

just a hint, from experience, do one side at a time, and mark the axle to the spring, so that way your axle stays in the same place. ive already did mine about 4 times, just PM me if you need a walk thru
