Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
It was much easier to get the crew together back then. When I joined up here there were something like 150 members and we pretty much knew everybody. Many of the closest friends I have today came from the beginings of TKF.IronTexas wrote:Man that was so cool to look at seems like you boys had alot of fun back then man wish I could of been to some of those parties It would be cool if we could have like a family TKF gathering for all the members that would be AWESOME but I guess it would be kind of hard to get everyone in one place at the same time But it would be cool thanks to all of you guys who got this started MUCH RESPECT FOR ALL OF YALL

Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
now this is a very special memory for me.......it is the very first group of Boy Scouts that i took kayak fishing/camping.
the second boy from the right is my son at 11 years old and the kid on his right is still one of his best friends at texas state university where they are freshmen. the boy on far left became an Eagle Scout and is in college in washington state. it seems like only yesterday we were out there eating gritty breakfast tacos.....

Damn, it's hard to believe that the girls are that old now! I still remember them when they were the "little darlings". (LOL) I guess the last time we saw them was at Phil's wedding. Man time flys!

did we have some good times back then or whut??????
Yep, looking back, it was a hell of a lot of fun! I'll be 404 in April, save your money as I'm expecting a nice gift from you!!!! (LMAO)

Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
oh yeah, that was the beau lido suites.....didn't we evacuate from a hurricane on that one?
Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
Yeah, I remember that trip very well. Drove all the way to Florida with the yaks securely locked to the rack only to discover that Joe had left the keys at my house. There were two very funny moments that followed. Joe asked if I had my pistol. Of course I did. Then there was a moment of silence before somebody said, "Nah, too loud this early in the morning."
The second was when Benny pulled out a duffle bag full of all kinds of tools and Dean asked him if he was a burglar in his spare time.
I'm still amazed the neighbors didn't call the police on us. We weren't exactly quiet at 4am.

Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
And I had time to catch my biggest snook ever....
Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
Double WOW!!!!
Re: pic of the day...blast from the past...
The coolest part was sightcasting that big ol snook. There was a school crowding some bait and I actually thought they were small tarpon. Sailed a 1/2oz DOA shrimp into them and immediately got bit. The first few jumps were into the sun and I was still thinking tarpon. Then Goin Coastal got a better look and hollered that it was a snook. One of my favorite mornings on the water of all time with a great group of folks.

Yep, Snook are a ball to catch, plus they're pretty damn tasty to boot!
Below are a couple of photo's from the Tournament from hell.

I'm in the back. I well remember the tournament when the hurricane came from the north. That's when I developed my dislike for inflatable lifejackets and found that you can paddle a Tarpon 120 straight into a 60 mph wind! The awards ceremony was more of a celebration that we were still alive, even though BB got cut up pretty badly.
