Seems to me yakkers are really crying lately. None of the yaks I see in the back bay are lite up in the morning flags or orange vests. I refuse to slow down and tear my prop or lower unit up becouse they like to sit in the only way in and out of the bay. pretty soon we will see them marching with rainbow flags declaring right to same sex yak marriage.lol Get out of the way and quit with the special treatment its everyones bay. Problem is these kids probably didnt know any better and there are seasoned yakers who dont have the sense these youngsters have.

dont let that stuff get you worked up.
you will always find posts abt PB's upset with yaks....and yaks upset with PB's. ...just like you will always find someone in the left lane going 10 mph under the speedlimit.
it usually boils down to 1 idiot ruining it for everyone.

Nothing new. 2Cool dredges chest beaters up from the basement on a regular basis. I didnt read the whole thing (gave up on 2Cool some time ago) but they have a point, anyone sitting in a channel can expect to get blown past. Especially if its shallow on both ends. Of course, I dont know the whole story.

Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
Ha! I suspect we've all done it over that on that other board...its so easy to get folks riled up on so many subject. 2Cool has more than its fair share of hotheads and those possessing an overabundance of opinions. I've done it a couple times on threads having nothing to do with kayaking, just other subjects. It used to be kinda fun but no so much anymore.dwilliams35 wrote:Oh well, that thread would have been on page 6 by now if I hadn't have opened my dang mouth. Live and learn.

Can't blame them, DW was the first a hole to post on that thread.
I doubt the old capt. had any bad intentions.
Of course things go downhill from there.

Stupidity and ignorance is abundant in all forms of boat operation. It doesn't matter if you're in a fiberglass, aluminum, or plastic boat.
Don't let one of those slack jawed misfits get to you.

Apparently you haven't spent all that much time on 2 cool. The whole thing almost exists sometimes to bash kayakers, it was well on its way when I started in. I've already said I wish I hadn't opened my mouth (keyboard, whatever) , but there isn't a damn thing I said on there that wasn't right on the money. This one was pretty tame...fish dirty wrote:x2,that was pointless.Who cares if its a kayak or canoe the point was the kids needed a light.Wasent a bash thread until his commentIamdamoder wrote:Can't blame them, DW was the first a hole to post on that thread.

No matter what forum you go on there are going to be a few hot heads. He was probably just blowing off steam, but yes, that kayaker should have a light at night.
Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
I always love the typical "I ain't gonna slow down, I'm going to mow you down"; bet they won't be so tough when they have to do a few years for manslaughter........duma$$
but yes if the yak didn't have a light, bad yaker! bad bad yaker!

There are not many valid excuses to not have a light on when boating at night.
Note I said boating -- not just kayaking .
I typically leave the dock in my PB an one hour before light (I mothership my yak) -- so I spend a good bit of time running in the dark.
Hardly a day goes by that I do not encounter another PB that is not displaying a light.
One, no moon light, morning I came across a 50' sports fisher sitting in the middle of the CC ship channel with no lighting.
It was so dark --I almost hit that big thing.
You would think that someone who could afford a rig like that could also afford a flashlight.
I stopped and discussed this topic with them.
Guys get to the water or ramp, excited to fish, and will begin the day regardless of whether their lights are working or not.
Lights do go out -- batteries go dead --- you should have a back up plan.
I keep a flashlight , a battery powered stern light and extra batteries on my PB in case the 12 volt system goes out.
Yakers should have extra batteries and bulbs for their lights as well.
No excuse!
Regardless -- there will be boats that are not lit at night and others should be cautious and keep their head on a swivel.
The sort of hate post quoted to start this thread (Back Bay Boy) are contagious and forum moderators should stop them -- but I guess that kind of thread sells ad space over on 2cool. The attitude they engender among other boaters is dangerous.

Someone get Borat some english lessons....you can't argue with idiots...what numb nut....look if you can only get into an area on full plain chances are during low tide you aren't getting out...hope he's bullet proof... let em chew on that thought a whileI see in the back bay are lite up in the morning flags or orange vests.
Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
Billy this isn't about having light on...this is about a kayaker beating this Ahole to his spot and being there first...that's what he's pissed about...not the fact they didn't have lights on in a marsh bayou

Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
The original post was a safety post. Confused about "canoe type yak"? Maybe it was a Native Ultimate 16 or a Mad River ExplorerTT. Easily confusing. Guy was trying to be respectful and warn them about being safe and they had a smartass reply. Then another no light yak. I can respect his attitude, frustration and approach.
DWilliams, no offense, but you egged it on and gave them ammo.
If the only way in or out is shallow but they have plenty of running room once there, give them a break.
I've seen plenty of kayaks sitting in the middle of busy channels and expect the power, sail or cargo vessel to move. I've also seen PB's in places that they shouldn't be.
Maybe a better first reply would have been, "Thanks for pointing out the need for a light and looking out for their safety, teenagers are invincible until they aren't. We really need to police ourselves."

Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
the best thing to do is never go there and never read that crap...it's the same old same old crap blah freakin blah...i couldn't even find the motivation to click it and read it now....
and i say leave it there, linking it up here just adds fuel to their ever weakening fire and once those numbnuts realize they are only complaining to themselves it will come to an end for that blah blah BS.....
i vote for no more links to 2cool.............
i find it disgraceful as a Texan that they call that the "Totally Texas" message board.....not my Texas!!!!!

Well - the way it started out on the 2cool thread was about the lack of lighting on a kayak and the OP guy was justified to be concerned.
"Back Bay Boy" chose to pile on with another topic -- people fishing in shallow channels--which he obviously considers his private running lanes. In my opinion, if someone is fishing a narrow channel, they have every right to be there and stay there. If this is the only way in or out of an area you want to access -- then wait your turn -- or go and fish somewhere else for awhile.
Many times the fishing is best either in these guts or on either end of them -- why should I have to yield, and pick up and leave-- because someone else assumes the fishing is better beyond me.
There are certainly exceptions to this -- like channels that are leading to boat ramps and marked navigation channels.
Another option would be -- get a push pole and use it -- if you need to move through the channel quietly.
If you are running your PB in places where you can't shut down -- and these areas are being frequented by other anglers -- then you
are probably screwing the area up for them -- you should rethink your program.
PS: Vincent -- I hope your accident recovery is going well.
PS: Dean -- agreed --we should let the 2hooligans spin off into their own weird universe.

Not aiming to piss anyone off with this, but if that site is A-hole abundant and is known to be rife with an anti-kayak crowd, why do you go there? I read most of the comments on that thread and figure most of the posters are missing teeth, many never finished school, and warm budweiser is a part of their daily diet. No matter how many good points you make, it's either going over their heads or falling on deaf ears. Just sayin'.
Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
Jay61, that really pisses me off. Generalization, even if probably true in this case, is really pushing your point.Jay61 wrote:Not aiming to piss anyone off with this, but if that site is A-hole abundant and is known to be rife with an anti-kayak crowd, why do you go there? It is, however, the most hilarious thing I've read this morning.

Re: Stupid comment on 2cool
There is a lot of good info on that site and many of those folks I consider good friends.
Yes, there is a general anti-kayaker attitude but its not all-prevailing. There are many dual boater-kayakers on that site including myself. I dont go there so much anymore because I am on here so much but I'm not going to completely bash it either. There are good and bad on all sites. 2Cool has its share of knuckle-draggers but then again, its a massive site with a ginormous membership. Certain subjects are just guaranteed to get 'em all riled up. Kayaks, boat ramp antics, croaker fishing, just keep 5, shoreline burning, tower boats, etc. Opinions abound, some more vocal than others. Whatever.
However, I agree. I dont like to see links posted over here that just serve to get everyone all riled up. Then we end up with multiple gossiping sessions between the two boards and people crossing back and forth just to see who is talking about what now. Then it really turns into kayakers vs boaters which is silly since often we are the same people. Just more fuel for the fire which shouldnt exist anyway.
