Cali Cat Yakin Report, Sat. 8-13-11

Got to the gate before 6:00 and caught enough shad and talapia to last for the day. Only one other person at the launch site. His name was Brian and he just got his kayak. I asked if he wanted to join me, but it appears he spent most of his time exploring the lake. The Reds were really biting in the morning. Before long, I hooked one and my drag just started whistling. Unhooked the anchor and let it drag me out of the cove, I then think it thought of the rocks and dragged me back, but by the time we got back there, it was too worn down to get that deep. It was about 6"inches longer than the width of my kayak, so I guess it was about 35 inches. I forgot my check it stick at home and camera in the truck. I hooked up with two other large ones, but lost both of them. The reds just kept biting all morning, finished the day with 41 reds. I only caught 3 small cats early in the morning. About 11:30, they moved in and I had my personal best day with 34 cats. They were all different sizes, but none as big as the one that I caught last Sunday. It was a great day, sure wish some of the other Cali cat yakers could have been there to enjoy the fun. Not sure if the big moon last night turned them on.

Dang Yakdat. You've brought tears to eyes . Thanks for the report. My calander say Wed 24 Aug before I can go Cat/Red Yakin again. Sure miss being out there with you John. Congratulations on your PB. Your moving right on up .

Great report! I will be out Monday morning with my 8y.o. daughter again. If we have half the success you had, it will be a GREAT day on the water. She is still waiting for her 1st sleigh ride
