GoPro Hero Camera. Need help installing

Post by PooHunter »

I just got the GoPro Hero for Xmas. I was looking at different cameras and ways to mount the, but my wife made the call for me with the GPH. I haven't decided on how and with what to mount it. I could use some suggestions and feedback. I am trying to decide if the small mount in the front would be better then the tall mount from behind me. Also, I am trying to figure out how I am going to operate it while I am fishing. It may have to go behind me for easier access. Any help would be appreciated.

I have mounted mine up front, in the back and on my head. By far, the best shots come when it is mounted on my head. Where ever my eyes look, I get a video.

Up front takes a picture of the paddler and very few of the fish. In the back gets a lot of the catching action and good videos of the fish. But you can't do too many close ups or zoom.................... (not sure the GoPro) zooms.

Even though I keep trying to do a behind mount (got a camera mount for Christmas..........on my list) I still get the best videos with the head mount.

As far as operating, my camera has a remote and they are worth every penny.

That has been my experience.

I prefer the behind the seat mount. I tried the hat cam, and based on the style of fishing that I do, I spend too much time constantly looking around for reds to sightcast to, and while landing a fish I move my head around WAY too much to be able to get any good/stable footage from...my $ .02

Thanks! I use the Kodak Playsport and the GoPro. I was using the GoPro on my head in the video above. Sorry, no pics at the moment, but will post up when I get some.

Great pic, and video ~jkilgore~. I really like the views from the head mounted camera. I've done it a couple times with great results. But I need to find someway of making it more comfortable. I just put a bolt through the bill of a old baseball cap. It works fine but the extra weight of the camera really makes it uncomfortable to wear for long periods.

Why not have one in the front and one behind you? I only have one GP right now so I just move it back and forth between the two mounts. It's interchanges very quickly by just screwing the camera off and on the mounts
At first I had just one behind my left shoulder.

Then I mounted one with my fish finder in front of me.

Thet both give great shots. The one in front takes great still shots, while the one behind takes great video's.

Those are some great pics of your camera mounts. I have the Go Pro so as I am looking at it, if I were to get the Yak Attack Pan Fish pole I am assumming I would need to get an adapter for the camera to mount it to the pole, huh? I see you are using the Ram mounts. I have not used them, but have looked at them. Are they pretty good?

Scotty Camera Mount 135, Marine Goop in PVC (3/4"?) for elevated mounting. It supports the slipin GoPro fitting or standard 1/4X20 camera mount.

Thanks mmmooretx. I will have to take a look at that Scotty, I do have to say I am kind of fond of those geartracs. I just cant seem to find anyone who has them in stock so I can look at them, ACK included. The Scottys seem to be the easiest to come up with..

I use the GoPro and took an old golf ball retriever and made a mount for behind me. I can adjust the height and turn directions. Easy to reach and change modes.

Yea you need a $7.99 standard tripod mount from go pro. You can get them at most of the local places that sell Go Pro's.
