heritage kayaks

Post by mcar1994 »

is there any difference in the heritage angler, and the heritage redfish angler? Here are the two links. I cant figure out if they are the same kayak. Im about to buy a new fishing kayak, but dont want to spend a whole lot.

I have the Heritage Redfish 12. I think they are just called a Heritage now. The angler edition has rod holders and sometimes an anchor trolley. I like my Redfish. It has served me well. Super stable, paddles well, and makes a great fishing platform. I wouldn't use it for pleasure paddling, but it is hard to beat for fishing... even BTB.

I believe the only difference is the new one at Academy has a cheaper seat. I had a Redfish Angler 14' and it was an excellent craft. My only complaint was the front hatch was really to small to easily load camp gear. Otherwise I may have never sold it.

well fellas, since yall both have experience with heritage kayaks, should i get the 10ft for 350$ or the 12 ft for 450$ ? im gonna use it for fishing in the bay,but also in lakes and rivers. but i also wanna be able to load it in my 7 1/2 ft bed, preferably with the tailgate up so i dont have to worry about my things flying out and worry about tying the boat down. I will be taking it on long trips back and forth from huntsville to galveston, tx. is it worth 100$ and the hassle of tying it down for the extra two feet? If it is, ill spend it.

It's the same yak the only difference is the angler has a backpad not a full seat and the front hatch is smaller. When you purchase this yak at academy they may even give you 10% off for the display yak if you ask. The gone fishing seat matches nice with this yak.

I just bought a 10ft and 12ft Heritage Angler from Academy. The 10 is for my wife and the 12 for me. Will be taking them out for the first time on saturday. I went for the 12 due to the extra weight capacity. It is only 25 pounds, but I figure every little bit helps.

Hi folks. New guy here. From my research it seems that Heritage is no longer in business. The boats at Academy are made overseas by a contract manufacturer for Academy and labeled Heritage. The boat warranty is through Academy. Can anyone confirm this?

I will almost always prefer a 12' over a 10'. They are generally easier to paddle and carry larger loads.

If you look at the yak it's made by native which is not overseas. Register through native and use ACK if you need warranty assistance. Native bought heritage.

I would go with the 12 footer. Easier to paddle.

The 12 is super duper stable. I've been on the water when a boat goes by and huge swells were sent my way.... no problem at all. You may fall off, but you won't turtle. There is a funny Youtube video out there of a kid trying to turtle one. He couldn't do it. The kid fell off twice and finally gave up on the Redfish and tumped over a Tarpon instead.

BTW the Heritage 14' at Academy by me is now $499 (Katy Frwy and BW 8)

Comments anyone? I am planning to buy the heritage angler 10 footer. First kayak to own, but I've been able to use my aunts ocean kayak-caper, and it was ok but it had no rod holders. The reviews I read on it (heritage) were good. The reason I want the ten footer is because I think it will fit well in the back of my Ford Ranger.

Im in the same boat looking at buying my first kayak. When you take it out, post to let us know how it turned out for you. Im looking towards at least a 12'. Ive rented kayaks before and i plan to use mine for other things, not just fishing and having a shorter slower kayak sucks, especially with other people that have longer ones. But the shorter one does come in handy for tight spots and for moving it. i have a double cab tacoma so there isnt alot of bed room but im thinking about making a rack system out of PVC for it. Im gonna try to attach a pic for the first time hopefully it works, so you can see what i mean.

Im leaning towards academy it just makes me nervous about the price difference and quality since its a pretty big difference in pricing.
