If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
I'm not a big bay fisherman, always been a surf or offshore kind of guy. I have a lot of friends that fish in the bay, so I'm finding myself there a lot this summer. Unfortunately my tacklebox is pretty limited in that type of fishing.
Everyone seems to rave about gulp. What two types would you suggest I get? While I'm at it, any lures I can't live without? I want to have 1 small tacklebox for bay fishing.

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Thats an easy one. I would buy two packs of pearl white 3" shrimp.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
I had a question on the shrimp gulp. How do you reel those in? Do you work it and twitch it or do you reel it straight in?
Any other lure suggestions?
Probably 80% of the water I fish in is clear. 3-5' deep.
Occasionally I fish in water that's murky, same depth.

That gulp question is a loaded one. When i started out on gulp, everyone swore by every color they have out there. I have the most luck on new penny. But I have caught on pearl. I say pearl for merky and new penny.

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
depends on the color of the water. dirty, murky, churned, dark colors, greenish, clear, blueish, light colors, same concept as you would for regular lures
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
I carry a very limited tackle "box" but three lures are always in it. 1/4 oz gold and 1/4 oz silver spoons and white DOA shrimp. Usually three other expermental lures.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Rootbeer jerk shad / 3 in pearl white shrimp.....1/16 oz saltwater assasin screwlock lead colored jighead short shank for the shrimp and 1/8 oz short shank for the shad. bounce the jerk shad off the bottom or just pull it through grass, jig the shrimp or let it move with the current if the tide is moving.

Pearl curly tail grub for flounder and pumpkinseed/chart for everything. Heck isn't that like a fishing trinity? Pumpkinseed... Chartruse... "Gulp!"????
Of course that last one could be a hilairious commercial for a tackle store, fisherman picks up a jar of it, comments on the power of the three then a man in a redfish costume tackles him and takes it

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
If you could only take 2 I would take:
1) 3" White shrimp
2) 3" New Penney shrimp
3) Ripple Mullet- Purple Blue Fleck Chartreuse
Hide the 3rd pack from your buddy.
That ripple mullet is the closest I can find to one of my all time favorite soft baits the H&H purple cocahoe minnow with a white tail...

I ordered the Gulp! Alive spray in both shrimp and crab flavor and gonna try it out on my all time favorite.
Would be interested to know others' experience with the spray on 'regular" touts...
For added ammo throw a spinner rig in there for good measure...

One of my buddies has used the flavored stuff on non gulp lures and he says it works..but you have to reapply is frequently because the lures can't absorb any of it.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Just letting everyone know, I am taking notes and will be trying to buy all these. hahaha
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Pearl white or Glow in the dark(which ever one I grab) 3" shrimp, and a New Penny 5" jerkshad are my go to gulps.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
3" sugar & spice shrimp & 4" curly tail mullet in pearl. fish em on a jighead bottom bounceing, spinner bait like redfish magic & popping cork are my favorite methods of fishing them.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
5" neon pepper chartreuse jerk shad 60% of the time it works everytime...Oh Yeah!!!
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
1) 3" pearl shrimp
2) limetruese curly tail swimming mullet
3) 3" new penny shrimp
I use pearl 3" shrimp more than anything else, but have recently been catching them on the new penny as well. I use the curly, swimming mulllet for a slower presentation and to really work the whole water column.

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
gulp 3" shrimp in new penny and 4" swimming mullet in chartreuse for anywhere the water's not crystal clear. if you can have two colors for those baits then add pearl for the shrimp and swimming mullet.

Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
80% of the time, I throw Swimming Mullet in pearl. 10% of the time I throw swimming mullet in pink. The other 10% is spilt between topwater, spinner, popping cork, wakers or random plastics.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Gulp crazy legs in white/chartreuse, and 1" swimming minnow same color.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
Root Beer jerk shad and Pearl Shrimp.
Re: If you were only buying two types of Gulp?
4" New Penny & Pearl shrimp work great for me
