Texoma Stripers--June
Texoma Stripers--June
I have been back up there twice since my earlier post. As these water temps pick up the activity is more limitied to early AM an late PM. Caught mostly dinks around Platter Flats but did find a few larger fish but spotty. Lots of shad it the water all over, shallow, deep pretty much everywhere. I guess it is time to hit the main lake over by the dam and chase some topwater activity. Maybe later this week or weekend.

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
I have a hard time making firm plans for a specific time, but I'll be out launching at the VFW Saturday and Sunday mornings. I know I'll chase some schoolies and probably run a few jugs one or both nights. Later in the day, I'll go drown some minnows at the Texins cove also looking for a few crappie.
I have been having the same luck on lots of dinks and almost no decent size with the stripers rising early and late. I'll probably drift some live bait a while this week also. Maybe that get something with some size interested.
Tight lines, Phill

I am probably going to be in the middel of the boat show Sat AM by the dam. If not there back up at Platter Flats.
A few weeks ago I could hardly catch anything under 20". Now the dinks prevail. But, hearing the same thing from the guides last weekend was tough all over the lake.
Good luck,
Earl

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Hey Earl I heard rumor that Oklahoma sold a large state park to a developer recently.
Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Do y'all do any good trolling for the striper at Texoma? I've got the Adventure Island and would like to try trolling out there sometime.
Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Preacher, heard the same thing. It was Lake Texoma State Park. I do not think the whole place got sold but just the resort area. Again not sure on the details but did hear the same thing. I think this has happened before 20-30 yrs ago and the developerr went bust.
Shaun, I usually troll until I find the big schools or until they find me. Then I cast into them. Trolling is an exciting way to get the big fellas. Two at once is even more a thrill. You just moving along across the lake and you see a few thrashes in the water then troll through the area thinking well you missed them then next thing you know all you can hear is the sound of two drags spewing line off the reels.
Well, think I am going to have to get another cup of coffee after writing all that. My heart is pumping just writing about it.

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Thanks Earl. I have a event to work this coming weekend but the following ill be heading that way.
Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Yep, same pattern last Sunday. Lots of schools of dinks but no over 20". I have seen this pattern before in the June time frame. The larger fish seem to feed after the spawn for a few weeks then they head deep. Mid July they seem to surface again.
Lake was calm Sunday with not so many PBs.

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Same here Earl. I went last Thursday and got back last night. Fought some wind this week a bit but no big news. I got pretty sick with a stomach virus and left my jugs unattended Friday night. Then I really got sick when 3 of them went away over night. Caught a couple of decent box size blues while I was tending them though. Couple of crappie again off some brush piles and a ton of dink stripers trolling and throwing in the schools.
I'll head back Wednesday and try to do it right this week. Taking much larger anchors and some Imodium just in case.
Shaun, If I had an Islander, I would have a hard time not trolling 20 yards out in front of the dam very, very early and them the south side of the islands as shallow as I could hit in the day. the front of the cliffs at Eisenhower do some good trolling for me also. The bottom slope is almost vertical to the river channel and a lot of feeding goes on there all day.
I trolled with my pro angler in the 20+ mph winds for about 3 hours and decided that was enough work for the day. Still had a lot of fun with the dinks. LOTS of dinks.
Good luck, Phill

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
I was there this morning and the stripers were "hot".
Acres of feeding fish on the top by the dam. I was throwing a fly
so all I was getting were the drinks but a deep runner under them
was producing big fish for the PB guides. Taking Old Preacher next Friday
morning. Hope they're still there.

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
Preacher and I went this Friday with no luck but the last two weekends I have gone to E Burns Run and launched in search of stripers. Last Friday and today we found big schools of feeding fish on the top. I caught quite a few last Friday and today my son and I both caught some quality fish. He was throwing a 5" white sassy shad and I was flinging a chartreuse and white clouser with the fly rod. We both caught a fish over 24 inches today.
I forgot my camera today but here's one from last Friday.

There is just nothing right about this, why not lead the old man to fish?Rev Cuda wrote:Preacher and I went this Friday with no luck but the last two weekends I have gone to E Burns Run and launched in search of stripers. That little fish is what I hear is every where on topwater. My brother, dad and the guides we know fishing out of Soldier Creek just can't get away from those huge schools of dinks. A big one is about a pound running with all those little guys.

Re: Texoma Stripers--June
I was flinging a fly and forgot my spool with sinking line. My son was doing great below the dinks. I saw one huge striper hit a 12" gizzard shad and it looked like a shark had taken a bite out of his back. He swam right into my yak before dying. The bigger fish are definitely under the dinks. I forgot my camera the day we were into the big ones and was too busy catching to stop and get my phone out of the hatch. A slab or a 3/4 to 1 ounce jig head with a big sassy shad will get below the dinks to the bign's!GoDoe wrote:That little fish is what I hear is every where on topwater. Re: Texoma Stripers--June
I go to catch them on the fly like you did. Size really doesn't matter to me just like catching them on the fly rod. Earlier in the spring I got a nice 10 lb over by Caney Creek on a popper but nothing since.
Hopefully they will come on this summer and I will get a chance to get back into them. I will be standing and stalking red fish the 21st thru the 28th of July somewhere near Aransas Pass.
