new build ?
new build ?
can I use regular plywood for a boat build ? It going to be glassed over so was wondering why it wouldnt work? I was thinking about treated wood but was thinking the fiberglass wouldnt stick very good ?
Re: new build ?
I know many people, including myself, use 5mm "hardwood" plywood. You can find it at Lowe's or Home Depot for about $12 a sheet. As long as its sealed inside and out, I don't see why it can't be used. I'm sure that the okoume marine ply wood is better looking, and easier to work with, but I just can't bring myself to pay the price for that wood. I'm also going to try the Rustoleum line of marine varnish and paint to finish my board. That will also make touch ups and refinishing a little bit cheaper.
But then again, I'm no expert. Just a college student making things work on a budget.

I do plan on sealing inside and out . I don't have no where local that has marine grade so don't even know the price difference . I did see some birch and oak that looked nice . No coupons in it .
