Insane Day at McFaddin!

Post by HtXfisherMan8706 »

Well well well I woke up this morning to a breezy and gloomy, cloudy day, and made my way to the spot with an even winder experience, and as expected I was greeted with a flat beach and blow out tide. It was an awesome day to say the least at the ol' McFaddin refuge. Met up with Cudagreg, TxTitan and his buddy Martin at around 8:30 9 and was the first on the water. I made my way about 75-100 yards off the beach and anchor up where I saw bait running. BTW there was ton's of mullet. I was soon joined by the rest of the gang with nothing to show since my launch. Martin anchored up a little shallower than me while Cuda and Titan headed out to I am assuming about 12 ft. I was sitting in about 10 I would say.
As me and Martin are sitting out there we are crossed by several schools of feeding reds with no bites. But there soon after Martin hooks into one before even me! and the rest is history. We must have been run into by atleast 5 or 6 feeding frenzies, talking about 100s of reds bustin bait with backs out of the water and tails slappin everything. AWESOME! I had never seen them like this. I soon ran out of bait and made my way in to reup. on my way out I see the bait closer to shore and decide to troll out to my anchor I left floating... BAM fish on. I get 'im in and go retrieve my anchor to fish the shallower area (8ft). There I finish my day with 5 more reds to make it an even 20 and I make my way back in to meet up with the guys on the beach as they had went in before me.
So here we are sitting and drinkning some brews, admiring God's blessing when we see lots and lots of nervous water about 50 ft wide and a football field length of shoreline long cruising our way. Then boom feeding frenzy. We all chuck out lines and soon hook up, not even 50ft from shore. INSANE. What a day. Best day ever for me btb. Here are some pics. I am sure Titan and Cudagreg will chime in I hope with some pics too. Get it while the gettin' is good.

Congrats guys. I had friends out there last week after the front when the reds were blowing up in the wade gut. I'm sure that is an awesome sight.

Well done Guys!!!!!! great day and glad y'all got on them. Love seeing those schools of big reds close to the beach.

I am thinking of playing hooky tomorrow and getting down there myself. But the forecasts are kinda mixed. Oh well, may just go down and surf fish for a while if nothing else.

Awesome!!!!! I wish this desk didn't need a jockey during the week. I hope conditions on Saturday are the same, although the weather looks suspect.

You're telling me, I still can't believe it. You know those moments where you look forward to the memories. Yesterday was it haha! Everything was perfect. New boat, no waves, fish guh lordo, beer with a fire and a few good men, and on top of that it was my birthday and I got paid while fishing. God is good boys.

Here is my addition to the insanity. My day started getting go out after HTXfisherman. like he said it was a gloomy day and other than a strong wind out of the northeast that made the water pretty nasty it was perfect conditions.
WP_20131017_001.jpg
i went out a little further than everyone else looking for some clearer water but that wasnt happening so i just dropped and anchor and rigged up. I was very excited not only cause i havent been out since July but i also had my brand new okuma cedros baitfeeder. it was awesome by the way. before im able to get another line in the water the clicker goes off. i leave half a mullet on the other line sitting on top of the water. I pull up a damn gaftop as the first fish on my new rig!!! while dealing with the slime ball the rod bows over and i have a smaller blacktip on the line. was worried to put feet in water after a shark came so close like that. within the next 30 min i catch the first bull of the day
WP_20131017_002.jpg
after this guy i was hooking up at most every 30 min with plenty of gaftop speckled in.

this was the only gray one of the day, al the others were lit up gold. all in all i caught 13 bulls from the yak then two more from the beach when we saw the feeding frenzy happen. it was an amazing day my new rig got a work out and performed beautifully, all the fish i caught were big stubborn mean ones who fought long and hard. none were under 35" and i had 3 or 4 over 40". it was one of my best days out there along with some fun guys. hoping we have some some sunny days soon with same conditions so its doesnt seem so cold with the wind but ill take the same results any day regardless

That's it, I'll be down in 5 hours.

These photos are making me itch. I gotta get in on this bull red run before it's over. My first time ever BTB was for bulls and I haven't targeted them since. That needs to change. I'll be in Corpus next weekend for Sharkathon... November 1st McFaddin what's up?!
