Trinity report

Post by fishin' soldier »

I used my Square stern canoe and motor today so I kinda cheated but here is th report. Hard to fit my boys in the yak. they arent quite ready to paddle yet either.

You can quickly pick out the guys that have never fished this area before. I saw 5 different boats hit the mud and bog down. I had on waders so I jumped out and pushed a guy off the flats to the channel. He had 3 little girls and a gown woman with him. Had no idea where deep water was and was heading in the wrong direction with a roostertail of mud, barely moving.

Here is the report. Water is extremely fresh. 4ppm salinity is what I was told. We tried about 3-4 spots then we found some willing participants. Rigged up with some fresh dead shrimp and told the boys to hold on. Tried cut bait and live mullet with no bites. Had a good time with my boys catching a few reds. Beautiful day on the water yesterday. Think they were a little excited?? 3 hours 3 reds, one was right at the upper slot~27" and 2 were right at 20". Kept the big one for redfish on the half shell. We also lost/missed a few others. Boys are still learning but they did well. Youngest tried to give me the rod back after about a 5 minute battle, said his arm was burning and he couldnt move his fingers haha. He did good kept him out of the motor and anchor rope.

The funniest picture is the one of my oldest pointing at his brother. He was leaning way to the side because his arm was so tired, he was getting whooped by that big ol red!

Nothing like taking the boys out! Last time I went out with my oldest (4 yrs old), we didn't even get a bump in about 4-5 hrs. He still had a blast being on the yak and playing with the $4 bait net I got him. There's just something about being out on the water with your and your kiddos!

Good job on the reds too! At least you were able to put them on the fish!
