Interested on Custom Fishbags.. and more?

Post by Andreujc »

Hello fellow Yakers.... This is not an add but more like an attempt at market research. Who would be interested on CUSTOM. We can add your name on the bag, avatar, logos....you name it...
Fishbags
Yeti or cooler seats
Kayak covers
etc...

Here is a prototype of the first fish bag that I produced for my yak....Please feel free to ask any questions or comment on it.

How much capacity does that bag have? And what are the dimensions?

The material on the outside is made out of Marine grade Sunbrella. Sumbrella is the highest quality fabric used on boat covers. The second layer is a plastic membrane for watertightness, then 1/4 inch insulation (working on something thicker) and then another plastic membrane for water proofing. The zipper is also made out of Marine grade molded plastic to avoid corrosion. The zipper is also oversized for strength and ease of use. The fish bag is attached to the kayak via loops of nylon webbing on the bottom (similar to the ones on top securing the bungees).
I haven't tested the oversized zipper for leaks. The first prototype had a much smaller metal zipper which was somewhat troublesome to mess with and it corroded to soon...

Again this is prototype... please comment or ask!
Help me get the wheels turning...
How about a fish bag made CUSTOM to you boat...you give me measurements and I build it... sound cool huh?

You make these? I think it would be cool to make them. I'd order one. Reflective tape? Maybe put my tkf handle on it?

Just one tip. Zippers are a dead end in salt water. I'm sure there is a way to devise a Velcro seal that won't leak with folded seams? That's what I want in my coolers and fish bags for the harsh environment in which we operate.

Love it!

maybe an insulated "dry bag" type configuration! With the folding and the snap clip thing! thats a great idea!

We are testing the over sized zipper at this time. So far seems to be a good option since it can be operated with one hand. We will def look into the Velcro. Some issues with Velcro is that it gets deteriorated with time under the sunlight and the ones that hold are really tough and even tough to take apart. We are looking into that option as well.

We dont have pricing yet considering that this is custom and it will vary depending on size, features and customization.
I like the idea of the dry-bag approach... stay tune with an update.

Thanks all for the input..!

Doesn't have to be velcro..........none of my dry bags that are water tight have any velcro on them. Just something that will fold 3 or more times and has a clasp that will hold it!

Pretty neat, man. I think there would be some interest in a fish cooler that was long enough for kings and stuff, and that fit between the scuppers on a Cuda. I use the Native bag but it's a bit wide. Something that was semi top loading to make it easy to slide in a fish through the center hatch would be nice. What price range are we looking at?

I like that idea with the cuda. I have one myself and it would be nice if i can wedge a long fish bag in the center hatch.

Price is in the works since we are still coming up with ideas. WE have though about the narrower fish bag for big species like kingfish, cobia, etc.

Thanks again for all your input and we will have some options soon!

Awesome idea man! The prototype looks awesome. I can't really tell if it already has this option from the photo, but I would think having the ability to open it up more and lay it flat out, kind of like an open book, would be great since it would be a lot easier to hose down and clean.

I wear HazMat suits that have zippers...and I am worried about a lot more than leaking ice...there is a zipper out there that is liquid and vapor proof...question is, would it be cost effective to use?

What about putting the zipper on the top of the bag, that way the water and ice stay towards the bottom.

I have some products I would like you to produce we will make money on.
First your bag. Put handles front and back. And put a bad strap on one side of the bag. Nice room for logos.
Call me 1(888)400-6831

Some said something about ice. Put a pee tube on it with a shut valve. You don't want water in the bag it can capsize you!
