Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
Last week, I was going to drive down to BPS and buy an FS128T, but decided to hold off for another month and get me some Costas.
I was looking and found a pair that I liked with the lenses that were highest recommended (580G Green Mirror).
I got them yesterday, not through BPS, but through a reputable seller on eBay.
I was able to save about $80 on it, plus they're new in the box with the paperwork.
Saltbreaker 580G Green Mirror
Yesterday was a clear sky day.
The moment I put them on, I said Jesus!.
I compared them to my Strike King $30 sunglasses, the SKs we're carp compared to the Costas.
The Costas we're a bit heavier, but the construction is solid compared to the SKs.
The colors I see have now have much more tone and depth, while the SK's tended to 'lighten' the colors.
Dang, I should've gotten a pair years ago.
I can't even imagine the things I missed out on.

You bet.Throttlehead250 wrote:haha its amazing what a good pair of glasses will do!
I've always avoided buying them because I always stand by the term, "Fish won't bite more because you spent more".
But then I realized that I'm trying to find signs to my target species, not getting them to bite more, especially after watching these Trout Support DVDs.

Best glasses I've ever worn, and I have the same lenses. Hard to ever put on anything else.

My wife did the same and I wore mine on rainy days too. She doesn't make fun anymore after I bought her a pair of polarized lenses. Now it has to be pitch dark for her to take them off or move them to the top of her head. Don't feel bad...just use it as an opportunity to buy your wife a nice gift and make her a believer and safer on the road!Andreujc wrote:My wife makes fun because I ware my costas even un cloudy days...they are just simply amazing.. Never owned any until about 2 years ago. Changed everything. Lol although I will suggest you either buy a keeper for them so they don't simply fall off your hat while walking back to your truck after a long day of tailgating while being a little inebriated. Don't ask me how I know lop. But seriously if u r on the water crossing a channel or something deep and fall over and don't have a keeper that can be an expensive lesson learned.

Cablz will make them last longer

Check out these deals haven't bought from them.....yet!

I just bought mine from my optometrist office and used my health savings card (Dr said they are an approved item) and they were tax free bc they are a "prescribed" item.

Re: Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
I bought some off ebay a couple years ago (wish I could remember the seller) and haven't looked back. I had also worried about them being fake because of the cheap price but had compared them to the same model (Corbina 580g green mirror) in the store and could find no difference. When traveling back from vacation last summer, the nice people at Southwest decided to put an elephant on my bag or something because when I opened my suitcase and dug through clothes to get my sunglasses, the case was collapsed and one lense completely shattered. $120 and a few weeks later I got them back from Costa so now I know for sure that they are real. But for the cost of replacing the lenses, I could've almost bought a new pair off of ebay.

Maybe, maybe not. It's about getting a quality product. But usually, the better products cost more. Buy once, cry once.adanvjr wrote:I've always avoided buying them because I always stand by the term, "Fish won't bite more because you spent more"
Next you should look at s quality paddle...you will be amazed by that difference as well.
costas
My buddy at work just gave me a pair of Costa Permits with the 580 lenses and they are very nice. Now i need to go get contacts to enjoy them
I also brought a pair of prescription Oakleys with polarized lenses and they work but the lenses on the Costas seem nicer.

I couldn't agree more... used to wear my Oaks on my hat because of baseball and became a habit. Sent them flying a few times and now my costas are around my neck... and will stay there.macjank7 wrote:Cablz will make them last longer

Not trying to hijack... But does anyone have experience with the 580P lenses??? The only model I like comes in Plastic instead of glass.
Re: Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
The plastic lenses are okay, and with them the glasses are much lighter. You lose a good bit in sharpness, though, going from glass to plastic, and Costa's best lens for shallow water - the green mirror over Amber base - isn't available in the plastic.
Re: Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
AHHHHH!!!!!! Another believer!!!! 580G Rincons are my favorite of All Time!!!! So Costa quits making the Rincon.....Have tried ALLLLL the models they say are just like'm.....nope, none of'm are. That's just the way my luck goes, Fantails, and Cabillitos ARE not even close......still wearing my old wore out rincons at work but sure wished I could get some new ones, moral of the story.....Don't fall in love with any costas, just like a woman....they'll be sure to CHANGE!!!!! I find PLENTY of Rincons on ebay, but theyre ALL tortouise frames and plastic lenses.

My brother in law us the largest dealer in Costas not withstanding big box stores. He has about 300 pair in stock. Believe it or not in Burnet Tx at The Highlander Restaurant. He sells high end tackle here like Avet, Tiagras and smaller stuff also. Me myself I am a Maui Jim fan. I get the flexons which are 350 + but I can twist those frames around backwards. Plus the polarization is second to none. Glass lenses are heavier, but oh so nice.
Re: Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
Fishintx... I have Maui Jim's as well... And I agree, the polarization is exceptional... But the lenses keep cracking and I'm about to send them back in for the third repair in three years. I'm a little pissed at MJ.
Re: Got my Costas, should've gotten them way sooner
I bought a pair of 580P in Fantail frame. I would not recommend them. they scratch if you look at them wrong. there are more scratches on my 2 year old 580P's than there are on my 6-8 year old 400G lenses, with much less wear on the 580P.Yak'Razy wrote:Not trying to hijack...
