Anyone know of a good place to go camping on the island. Probably near your favorite fishing spots? where all the reds bite and specs jump in to your kayak
anything would be awesome!

Cross the Ferry to Bolivar. You can camp anywhere on the beach with fires, beer, etc. You just need a beach pass ($10 I believe) which you can get from any store on the island. Turn right on the first beach access road (Rettilion Rd.) and drive to beach and turn right (southwest). Drive until you cannot go further and fish on the other side of the pillars all the way to the jetties. The water is shallow and you can wade out pretty far and stay waist deep. Fishing is good there and it looks like the wind is going to cooperate. I might head out there myself. I am thinking about hitting Pierce in the morning Saturday and then heading to Bolivar to camp and fish at night. Good luck!

That sounds like a freaking plan. I appreciate your input....it will be that or go out to drum bay. I have yet to go out to bolivar peninsula. I got a feeling that is what i will be doing. I will post with and update and maybe link up out there...

as someone who has ridden the bolivar ferry hundreds of times in a previous life, be prepared for it. might be hours+ wait because of the holiday weekend....personally, I'd rather spend the time moving than sitting. I used to go I10 east then cut across at hankamer and watch the rice fields zoom by at 70mph. If you do ride the ferry, try and look suspicious so you get searched. you then get to bypass the line. haha. Good fishing to you. crunch.

I have to agree with Capn, here. My folks used to live in Gilchrist before Ike hit. We would take I-10 East to Winnie and then head down toward High Island and come the back way. Those ferry lines can be brutal especially on a holiday weekend.capn crunch wrote:as someone who has ridden the bolivar ferry hundreds of times in a previous life, be prepared for it. might be hours+ wait because of the holiday weekend....personally, I'd rather spend the time moving than sitting.
