Need advice on Perception Kayaks...

Post by Bocephus »

Academy has the 12' Pescador, and the 13' Pescador.... 1 foot difference in length, 2" in difference in width & height.

If you had to make a choice...which & why ?....see links below.

Thanks for any helpful advice !

Bo

The narrower/longer model.

You lose a little side stability, but you gain speed.

These are old Tarpon models.

The lighter model because I have very bad shoulder joints.

They both have adjustable foot rest? If not, I'd get the one that does. I don't where you're located but the Academy I was in Saturday had the pescador 12's marked for $399.

I own the 12. Love it. Plenty heavy enough. I can carry it overhead 20-30 yards without resting. Plenty fast and can carry a good load.
Lake, bay, marsh, and surf. I've been comfortable in all.

Also...I own green. I recommend a brighter color (red or orange). First, the green absorbs a lot of heat from sun, a lighter color may be better. Second, better visibility.

I would go 13. The 12 isn't exactly a SUP anyway, so the slight loss in stability would mean nothing. The extra speed allows you to cover water.

With that said, if one is on sale for 399, that's a no brainer
