Great Day 11/30

Post by jgj5533 »

I spent the last day of November trying to get in the money for the 321 trout tango. I spent all morning working my corky in 4' of water over shell trying to find some big trout. By noon I only had a few small trout that weren't helping at all with the tourney. The sun had been out all morning so I decided to pull out the topwater and head shallow to see if there were some trout sun bathing. I found some slot reds to start out with and then finally get the monster trout I was looking for. She was just shy of 28" and would probably put me in the money. But in all the excitement and hurry to get her back in the water I realized I forgot to put the token on the fish! This tournament is online so you need a token to prove the date.

I wanted to head in after that mistake, but decided to grind it out. I moved over to a shallow area with mud/shell mix where I have had success in the past. As soon as I get there I hook up with another monster trout. I get her about half way in and the hook slips. I give a few more twitches and fish on again. I net her and this one is 27.25". Over the next hour or so I had big trout exploding on my topwater. I lost a few more nice ones, but still ending up catching 5 trout over 25". The smallest trout I caught in the area was 23". That was probably the best hour of fishing I've ever had. Called it quits pretty soon after the bite died down.

lure- pink skitterwalk and pink corky
1.5' of water
Tide seemed to be incoming

Makes all the grinding worth it, in the eleventh hour no less. I told you it only takes one day actually one hour :cat: I could never find the right ones.

Haha I was wishing I had my radio to call you over. I started catching them about 5 minutes after I passed you that last time.

Right after it happened I thought about you doing the same thing. I told my buddy that I am even more of an idiot for doing it after your reminder.

Nice trout. We went out Tuesday to our winter spot. Lotta bait but water temp was not right. Saw how it was slick as glass so decided to hit another spot got there and wasn't there 10 minutes and got caught by the winds so that just killed it for us. Hitting it this Saturday and get on the December board.

Still waiting for one of those days for quality trout in numbers. Have been a little distracted by deer season but I'm thinking about loading up the yak this weekend and looking for zephyr cove. Good job!

I will be out there a lot more now that the fronts are getting closer together. We have a baby boy on the way around January 3rd so I am preparing for that but I will still make it out a few days.

Congrats! When my wife and I start having kids that will probably just kill my fishing. Maybe I'll see you out there this winter though.

Oh it will! Why do you think I can never meet up with you

I have a second one arriving at the beginning of June so that will just limit me even more.

You guys have to dig to the bottom of your wive's purse and find your balls. Mine knows I love to fish and it keeps me happy and out of trouble.
Just giving yall a hard time. It's my first child so I have some hazing to go through...I like to keep telling myself I am going to go fishing as much as I want because Winter is my all time favorite season to be jacking ol mustard mouths.

Don't write me off yet. I've been working on something that might solve all my problems. I figure the 4 year old can sit behind me and the new edition can sit in front of me so I can see her at all times. Safety first you know.

Haha I'll remeber this post in a few months when you are complaining about not getting to fish with a newborn at home.

That's what I'm talkin about. Just be careful slinging those topwaters around.
