Intro
Hey guys, I've been lurking on the boards for awhile now, figured I'd go ahead an introduce myself. I'm elnaco, and I enjoy sight fishing in shallow marshes and back lakes for whatever will take a fly. My fly casting is marginal at best but I have fun doing it. Technically, I run a microskiff and not a kayak, but since I pretty much fish the same waters and pole most of the time, I feel I fit in better with the yakkers than the PBs. GoDoe also seemed to gain some acceptance here so maybe you guys will accept me as one of your own too.
I fish the Galveston Bay Complex, west bay the majority of the time, and Rockport/ AP down south to Port Mansfield. Around the GBC, I'm usuallly in this guy
Going after these guys
If I can't get to the salt, then I'm usually chasing these guys
When I can't fish I enjoy tying up some of these
So there you have it. I look forward to giving some input where I can and learning a thing or two from some fellow fly fishermen. If you ever see me out on the water or at the ramp come by and say hello.

There are so few of us slinging Flies that there is no need to discriminate about what mode of transportation someone uses to get to those sighted fish. I think most everyone reading the Fly Fishing Section enjoys hearing fly fishing stories and any tips that might be gained from those posts. I still have 3 kayaks to protect my membership card in TKF.
The posts help tide me over until my next trip and provide motivation for me to get out ASAP.
Love the posts with pictures of course and keep them coming.
I hope to share the water with anybody with a fly rod in their hand sooner than later.
See ya'll on the water:

Riding the storm out on my last trip. 40 mph wind and rain for 30 minutes then muddy water. Trip over.

Nice to meet ya!
Now, I'm going to need more info on that rig you're running. What's the make/model? I'm currently yak-less and would like to pick another one up but I really dig the skiff you have there and it would fit in perfect for the type of fishing I like.

Thanks for the welcome guys
I'll try and post as often as I can, unfortunately I'm not going to be able to fish again for about a month due to work.
It's called a conch paddleskiff and is made by R&R boatworks out of Florida. It's basically like a pelican/beavertail ambush but 2/3 the price. Now, I'm going to need more info on that rig you're running. What's the make/model? I see from your reports you fish AP often. My family has a place down there. It'd be great to get out on the water with you sometime. I'd like to check out that soloskiff of yours.I hope to share the water with anybody with a fly rod in their hand sooner than later.

I've been in and around kayaks and fly fishing for the past sixty eight years. I am a Red Cross certified small craft (sail, canoe, kayak) instructor, in both safety and boating procedures.
Up until two years ago, I was spending a great deal of time in one of my kayaks, fly rod at hand. Having been retired for these past twelve years, I've taken advantage of the opportunity to experience many adventures with PACK and others. A few great times have also been spent by myself in the company of all the stuff the creator, or whatever, placed throughout nature.
Unfortunately, during a HOW kayak fishing/camping outing at Lake Medina, I forgot I was no longer twenty-five and I hurt myself loading kayaks into the trailer. Since then, I'm afraid my kayaking experiences have been relegated to my library of pleasant memories.
I still hunt for rainbows in the Rocky Mountain streams, and bonefish and permit in the shallow bays of the Yucatan. I enjoy the gentlemanly pursuit by guided boat on occasion. But, the physical requirements of kayaking are just a bit too much for me to handle. So, I will be looking for someone with a power boat that wants some company and someone to share the costs. Or, I will be looking for a rig such as yours.
One thing for sure. I won't be giving up fly fishing.

Welcome. I'm a fluff chucker too, and working on getting a SoloSkiff. Gotta sell the motorcycle first..... Like GoDoe, I have three yaks but my schedule dictates that most of my fishing trips be scheduled in advance. I somehow always pick the bad weather weeks to go. I was hesitant to try to get anything heavier than a kayak because I haul a fifth wheel RV and don't really want to tow tandem, but have worked out a way to haul the skiff. Now I just have to work out the funds..... Perhaps I'll see you on the water one day soon.

Sorry to hear about your injury and having to give up kayaking. Man I bet you've got some awesome stories stored in that library of memories along with just a wealth of knowledge.Kayak Kid wrote: Unfortunately, during a HOW kayak fishing/camping outing at Lake Medina, I forgot I was no longer twenty-five and I hurt myself loading kayaks into the trailer. I can't fish two off of my rig, but I could offer a tow if you still have a kayak.

Welcome
Nice set up you got there, I wouldnt mind taking a look at that skiff you have there. I mainly fish around PA, Rockport, and Mansfield. Will be headed down in a couple weeks nothing better than catching the early morning reds on the fly. Will be keeping an eye out for ya while I am down there.
Shoot I may need a recipe for catching some of those carp they are hard to catch up here in west texas.
Tight Lines,
Kfish

Welcome aboard, Elnaco! Nice skiff you have there as well as some good looking flies.
I see you listed H-town as your base of operations, which area? Reason I am asking is that the Texas FlyFishers Club meet the last Tuesday of each month as Bayland Park, on Bissonnet between the 610 loop and the toll road. Come by and visit, we always have room for more.
Tight lines, Chris
