Less is best!!
Re: DIY wade fishing caddy
My kayak makes for a pretty good wade caddy, but if that is less than you need, how about this?

Yes, Less is Best, but I have a 12 yr old and an 8 yr old and lately they've been wanting to fish with both Lures and Live bait plus I'd like to take 2 rod/reels out with me.

Did you see this post? Here is the item <http://www.basspro.com/Shappell-Jet-Sle ... 108263923/>. Should be just the ticket you are wanting for two small boys.. One could even ride with they get tired and take turns riding so dad could fish longer and not have to quit early? Just saying...
good luck

Re: DIY wade fishing caddy
a cheap diy wade livewell is pool noodles around the rim of a clothes basket....i agree with the others that a kayak is the best option but if you dont want to go that route try a bucket with pool noodles wrapped around the sides or a boogie board with a bucket glued/attached to the top (or cut a hole in the boogie board and insert the 5 gallon bucket)

I think that you really have to factor in the amount of --drag-- that any add-on will cause. If it is too much, then you won't want to haul the thing around very often.
If it simply must be home-made ( I love home-made stuff), then a single piece of pvc house siding could be bent around a few forms ...some duct tape..and there you go. Might want to visit a few construction sites. They throw away the lengths that you will need.

Re: DIY wade fishing caddy
Not sure how big of a caddy you want, but I've used a swimming kick board and tethered it behind me when I waded. With its shape being somewhat aero, it moves through the water with ease. They are usually large enough to zip-tie a Plano box or two to the top to hold tackle/lures. You can also cut out a 2" hole and insert a piece of PVC for a rod holder. And with the board being foam, you can stab a stringer in it, attach pliers/hookout/boga, etc. There are a lot of options, you just have to get creative with it.
Re: DIY wade fishing caddy
currently building a experimental microcruising sharpie to use for fishing when I don't wanna paddle , but method I'm testing to see if its strong enough for a boat would work well for what your wanting to build
Grab a sheet of xps insulation foam (blue or pink stuff) cut out whatever ya want ... make a small pirogue or whatever...glue it together. put a ton of small holes all over the surface like with a wallpaper tool and then use tightbond glue to wrap it in fabric ( old sheets, canvas, whatever) then paint it with exterior enamel paint till the fabric is saturated using thin coats till it stays shiny after 10 mins inbetween.... let it cure hard for a week or two... done and will be fun project to do with the kids

Re: DIY wade fishing caddy
Besides the YouTube video I posted above, there is another, simpler and less bulky option. It is something that a few of my buddies have done. They take a Do-Net, add an extra Styrofoam ring (or 2), tied together with zip ties, then attach a couple of wade-tackle boxes on top of the rings and one even mounted a rod holder (he has a total of 3 Styrofoam rings in his). I think he took the rod holder off after one good splash to his mag 50 though. I never thought it was anything I wanted to lug around, but they like it. It does lack a bait bucket though. But it has a place to put your fish.

That Kid's Youtube was ok. I think it would create a ton of drag, whether you were wading or yakking.
Never understood why people who make YouTubes show every little tiny bit. Takes ten minutes for a three minute feature. Guess some viewers need every tiny detail explained, but most do not. I know it is a kid, but someone put him up to making the video. I buzz ahead as fast as my download speeds let me.
