Hate to put a damper - but it's supposed to storm all weekend and into next week again. Getting really tired of all this rain - a drought would be a blessing right now!bushwing wrote:I might it just depends on work and weather. Won't know until tomorrow

There is an opening tonight to fish. Rain chances are 0% on weatherbug all friday night until early morning when storms come in.
I am making no plans, because they never work out. But if I do go tonight, it will be around 9 under causeway on galveston side.

Still planning launching 6 am Sat. Been working too hard this week and I need my salt.
Re: Night Fishing Tiki/ Galveston Causeway this weekend
I finally get a chance to fish and we get a weekend with constant thunderstorms? I'm a bit intimidated by the weather report but I've got the poles rigged just in case. More fish for the crazy, err I mean dedicated kayak fisherman right?

Get up early early, watch the radar and more than likely you can find a good window even though you may get a few drops
Re: Night Fishing Tiki/ Galveston Causeway this weekend
Well I may have talked with one of you last night about 11 pm when I finally got around to go, but wasn't going to miss it. I was in a Ford Expidition with Ascend on a triailer behind it. Looked like everyone was finishing up when I got there. I did see the Blue Tacoma still parked at the ramp by Fat Boys.
At the ramp, I got some advise that they were killing them on live bait on south side of causeway. Since I wasn't catching anything in the net, I packed up and ran to get bait and hit the water little after 12. I wound up with 2 keeper trout and quite a few dinks. But being my first time I didn't venturre real far by myself and didn't spend a lot of time on water.
What do you guys do for the mosquitos???? I sprayed down with Deep Woods and had my Thermacell, still got ate up!

Man That's strange, I was out there Wednesday Night and didn't have any trouble with Mosquitos. I always Launch Island Side Right underneath the bridge too. I don't get the idea of Launching at Fat Boys and making that Paddle over there( not that bad). After I launch I am in the lights fishing within a minute or 2 and usually anchored in a spot within 5 minutes. I have never used Live Bait either usually I just have a handful of Lures and a couple Tandem Shrimp. The Keepers are in Better Numbers when you have a real good Tide Movement in My experience Incoming has produced more fish. Most of the Kayakers I see out there Move around too Much from Light to Light casting here and there. I have Never had Luck doing this 95 % of my Keepers have come from sitting in the same spot working the same light.
This is my Opinion :The Bigger Trout as in Keeper size are constantly moving through there Not staying in one light or around one Light but rather moving from the edges of each light ambushing the bait, and if you are moving around Light to light you are more likely to miss them.

I personally do better going from light to light. The keepers I've caught at the Causeway were from drifting around.

Take it from a Tiki Islander. You can from zero mosquitoes to a blood sucking swarm over night.SuperShane wrote:Man That's strange, I was out there Wednesday Night and didn't have any trouble with Mosquitos.

O no I believe that for sure because I fished back to back nights and it was ridiculous on the 2nd night and the first was like they were no where to be found

Re: Night Fishing Tiki/ Galveston Causeway this weekend
The skeeters are bad out there especially a few days after a good rain...hmmm...lol
I use Deep Woods Off with Deet and spray my exposed skin and my clothes (especially my hat as I hate bites on the ear!). It works well for me. At times when I forgot to put it on or the swarm just shows up, if I get bit ONCE I break it out and start crop dusting the entire kayak while I douse myself. I use the pump spray bottle as it goes on and stays best. I re-spray every 3-4 hours if needed as I sweat out in this heat. You would think with the wind as hard as it is out there at the "bridge" that it would blow the damn things away but these salt water immune skeeters hone in on your carbon dioxide breath out there like flies on doo-doo. Don't know how but they do, damn things. LOL

So you guys are launching right under the bridge? I pulled up by Galveston bait unloaded and then parked at road.
I saw the road that went beside the bridge but wasn't sure if there was a turn around or anything. I have a trailer so I didn't want to take the chance of getting down there and not being able to turn around to get out.
Can someone let me know if that can be done?

There is Plenty of room underneath the bridge for you to get in there with a trailer, When you go down that slanted Road you can go directly underneath the bridge towards the railroad bridge and in that corner there is a Kayak Launch, you could actually back your trailer down the slight hill and slide your kayak straight in the water on high tide.Millsman5 wrote:So you guys are launching right under the bridge? i might try that instead of the typical fat boys launch....can you keep your eye on the truck from pretty far away?SuperShane wrote:There is Plenty of room underneath the bridge for you to get in there with a trailer, When you go down that slanted Road you can go directly underneath the bridge towards the railroad bridge and in that corner there is a Kayak Launch, you could actually back your trailer down the slight hill and slide your kayak straight in the water on high tide.Millsman5 wrote:So you guys are launching right under the bridge?
