Sea Rim - On Fire!!!

Post by Mythman »

Five kayakers showed up at Sea Rim this morning to a beautiful fall fishing day.

5 kayakers = 71 bull reds!

We were all on the water by 8:30-9 am and CoastieCulture was soon hooked up with doubles:

Next it was my turn:

Back and forth it went:

Everybody was catching fish...............here's Spoon:

I had six fish in the boat by 10:00 am:

Image

Then it kinda of slowed for me.............so after sitting for 30-40 minutes, I moved a little shallower............like 6 1/2 ft.

Image

Ah ha, back on.................I sat in this one spot the rest of the day.

I had 4 or 5 doubles:

I even caught a 3 ft cownose ray( I cut his barb off):

At 1:00 pm I caught my 20th bull red and decided to head for the sand.........but before I could get everything stowed away, I get another hookup:

My only shark for the day.

Everyone was off the water by 1:30 - 2PM.

It was a good, good day with lots of fish and outstanding camaraderie!!!

You should have just cut the line on the stingray... now it's just gonna die (assuming you release it, if you kept it, nevermind).

Other than that, great fish!

Congrats! I'm hoping to go next weekend. I keep hearing that they are biting shallow. At 6.5 feet, it must be close to shore. Are you guys fishing the second or third gut?

Beautiful day on the water. I brought down the average fish per person with only 9 landed and about 5-6 that spit the hook. But I saw many more BR when when reeling in a shark and several other BR. I ran out of leaders and had to fish with only one rod. There were herds of BR roaming the shallows. Shallow is the key. One strike hit so hard it backlashed my reel. Luckily that was the smalled BR at about 36". Well worth the drive from Katy. Mike thanks for setting up the trip and posting.

Perhaps you don't know that cownose ray are referred to as " Shark Candy". A bait shop happily paid me $15 for that ray.......and it was dead upon arrival.

Alright, good. :D (yes, I know they're good shark bait, I personally use stingray for sharks) I only said that because I've seen so many people (especially on piers) that'll cut the stingray's tail off and then throw it back to die... :x

Man, I want to fish at searim, but it's 5 hours away...

Do you think dead shad would work as bait for these bull reds? I cast netied about 10 pounds of shad last week and Imy trying to decide what to use them for.

Dead shad will work..........but they are harder to keep on a hook than mullet.............take plenty!!

Just an FYI. I have caught and seen several rays caught that have had their tail/barbs cut off by previous fisherman.
