NO beans in my Chili
Re: NO beans in my Chili
I can, and do, go either way. For competitions, you can't add beans, so I learned that method later in life, but I grew up eating (and later, cooking) chili with "beans and saltines," so count me among the heathen gourmands. Growing up, our chili was served that way because feeding 9 hungry mouths required fillers; plus Dad came from Nebraska. Yankee Chili tends to be sweeter, more tomato-ey and have beans. FWIW, my mother cooked the beans separately from scratch with ham hocks, bacon, onions, fresh herb bundle and garlic. If you have never tasted that addition to your chili, and if you can do so in secret so that nobody finds out, you just may change your hard stance on beans in chili.
Re: NO beans in my Chili
if you are serving chili to someone who likes beans in their chili, make the beans separate and let them add them to their serving.
Too Know.. they did a beans test on America's Test Kitchen.
They compared fresh dried beans made perfect and canned beans.
It turns out that the process that Goya uses to make their canned beans is superior to all other methods.
The Goya canned beans beat all the other beans.

I go through a lot of Goya Beans in my house. I have been known to open a can of their red beans and heat them up in the microwave with a dash or two of Cajun seasoning and eat them as a late night snack. Their refried beans with chorizo are amazing.CaptJack wrote: Too Know.. they did a beans test on America's Test Kitchen.

And yes, if I'm making chili for company, I serve the beans on the side. After all, I am born and raised Texas and most of my friends feel as you do about beans in chili and they give me a lot of grief for eating mine that way
Re: NO beans in my Chili
Mama's chili always had beans in it. So does mine.
