"NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a possible person in the water in relation to an unmanned kayak found on Lake Pontchartrain approximately one-half mile north of the Southern Yacht Club, Saturday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of the kayak at 12:36 p.m. and directed the launch of Coast Guard personnel to search for a possible missing person.
The kayak is a camouflage Ocean Kayak model Prowler. It was found with a yellow water bottle and a soft purple lunch cooler filled with spoiled remnants of what could have been bait or food."
This maybe nothing or we lost a follow kayaker. Always let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to be back. Let them know if things change. Put your name and contact number on your major gear including your boat. If it gets lost someone may call.

any time a loose kayak is reported, the CG has to initiate a search, unless the boat has contact information attached to it, and the owner can be contacted.
about half of these threads are the life-lost kind, many are just the loose kayak call. Attaching your contact information to your boat in some way seems to be a smart thing to do.
