Galveston Beach Front

Post by OldTownYakBoi »

The surf is perfect out there right now, green to the beach and slick calm.

I’ll be out in the morning with a buddy on a powerboat to fish the beach and jetties. I’ve been out to the rock groins a handful of times since May started, each time only for an hour or so. I’ve managed some decent catches, but it’s about to get good.

Hit the surf Thursday, just before sunrise.
Bite was early at high tide. Fishies mostly behind the row of fisher folk, lurking back in the first gut.
Very little sign of 'em on the surface, but at times the water was literally stinkin with trout.
Watermelon-scented cool morning air. AH!

Thought I had a limit, but on second look, maybe the larger one's a Sandy?
Never caught a Sandtrout before so I dunno.

Nice! That’s still a speck, just one without too many spots. You can see some specks on the fins and tail. A lot of fisherman blow right through the first gut, but first thing in the morning it can be money

Thanks Ron, nothing like a good surf trout. That’s a big pompano, I don’t hear about too many of those being caught in the Galveston area unfortunately
