I’d like to start bringing my 9mm on my kayak fishing trips in the marsh.
What are some options I have for storage/mounting? I’d like it to be quickly accessible and I’d like it not to get rusty. I’m not concerned about flipping the yak. I’ve had an Outback for 21 years and only flipped once (other than surf landings) in the first month of ownership. I’d rather not have it attached to my chest while fishing.
The gun is not in good cosmetic condition as it was stolen from me and recovered a year later with lots of surface scratches.
At the moment I have a hard plastic case with padlock and a soft case. I don’t own a holster…only lived in TX for 2.5 years.
How about something that attaches to either the back of the Vantage seat or below the seat?
How do you carry your handgun on your yak?
Thanks,
Dave
Handgun options on Hobie Outback?
Re: Handgun options on Hobie Outback?
I assume u want to take gun with you in event of breakin.
Ive found no need for ready access for it on the water. Typically, the pistol goes from my truck holster to pocket holster then to Pelican dry box tethered to boat padeye.
I can get to it fast enough if needed. Dont be popping no pigs from the boat, they wont mess with you

Re: Handgun options on Hobie Outback?
I have kayak fished the Galveston bay system for roughly 15 years and never needed quick access (or any access for that matter) to my handgun. But I do carry it in a dry bag stored between my legs.
Re: Handgun options on Hobie Outback?
OP-wanna see reports on alligators, sharks and snakes attacking people too?
Ive jumped hogs bedded down unexpectantly and they bristled and shown fangs then hauled butt the other way. I on the other hand had to clean up a little poo Nuemi tells of running over a gator...good story!
My experience with wild critters is they want nothing to do with humans in general.
If you carry a gun and use it, there will be consequences. Read up on TPWD and Texas rules.
Some water is illegal to shoot from, alot of water is bordered by privately owned land and needs written permission to hunt. If you miss, wheres that bullet going? Could be an occupied duck blind or house behind hidden by the reeds. Just saying, its a bad idea. The sound will travel and others will be aware of someone shooting.
An airhorn or shout would be just as effective IMHO
