South Bay - Crabman

Post by Redfish1 »

Has anyone fished South Bay out of the old Crabman/Tarpon? It’s been a while since I’ve been down but thinking about coming down Sunday. If not there the Lighthouse Lakes? Are the reds schooling? Trout at the drop offs and ambush points?

Crab Man, or whatever it was after crab man (edit: Aransas Queen Casino), was destroyed during Harvey and never rebuilt. I wouldn't risk launching there since it's private property. LHL Park and South Bay Marina are your only options. Well and down Harbor Island Rd too.

Check the reports page, a group of us were there a week ago. No schools that I saw, saw some reds in the mangroves chasing shrimp.

RF1: If you want to fish South Bay, there's a bait stand, just after the bridges from Stedman Island. Just across 361 is a decent kayak launch. You can paddle North under the bridge and South Bay is right there. Just after the bridge, there are rows of rocks that are remnants of the old railroad trestle to Harbor Island. My friends catch Reds there, but I haven't. If you go South, the western edges of B&R Flats are right there. Good fishing. I quit fishing South Bay, because every time I anchored on the edge of the flats, dolphins would come and hang around. I'd move 1/4 mile, and they followed me. B&R and the sailboat channel have usually produced for me. The weather and wind have been very nice all month. Catch'em! TexasJim
