Simple Shrimp Pattern

Post by Neumie »

With my upcoming trip to the coast I broke out the vice to play around with some shrimp pattern. Used craft fur, marabou, Estaz Chenille for the body.

Looks great! I went through a box of patterns today and wondered which ones would work well. Cracking the code, your pattern likely looks and moves just right. Fish are more subtle than maybe we realize. A feather might be more persuasive than a hammer.

The second version I let the eyes stick out a little farther and tied the legs in before the Estaz. Fishing it on the trip the fly swam upside down, which wasn't an issue since I was getting strikes, so I need to tie in a larger bead chain to hopefully keep it hook point up. Really would like to avoid going to dumbbells.

One idea to flip the hook point up if you’re trying to avoid the dumbbells is to do a little loop of monofilament nylon and put two or more glass beads on the loop. You could even use brass or tungsten beads.

Just an idea.
