Freeport 11/22
Freeport 11/22
Launched around 10am. Spectacular conditions, light NW wind, comfortable, all around beautiful day. Began the day fishing a marsh lake. Right off the bat I picked up a 22” redfish when I tossed over a paddle tail to some nervous bait.
Moved around looking for the trout. Finally found one at 19”. Paddle tail in 3’ of water over hard bottom. Fished a bit longer, but couldn’t get any more trout, just several rat reds. Caught about 15 redfish in total, the one trout and the big flounder. Water was outgoing and pretty low to begin with. Super fun fishing. Saw a few boats, but no kayaks. I’m very pumped for getting the flounder even if I couldn’t keep it. Half-shelled three 22” redfish filets for dinner Sunday, cleaned the trout to give to my folks, and froze the two 26” filets and one 22” filet.
I got that one to the net, the fish in the bag, myself settled and look down the bank and see a pod of redfish heading my way. Time for the fly setup. Had some issues with the line being dry and stiff and that sort of messed up that opportunity. No biggie because here comes another pod. I was ready this time and got a 26” red to inhale the tan borski bonefish slider.
There was a third pod on the heels of the second one and this time a 22” red came to hand.
Decided to search for some trout and that lead me to a marsh drain. Bait was getting blasted along the edge. Turned out to be the biggest flounder I have ever caught. Took the photo and released it to swim away. 6+ pounds on the boga. Didn’t get a length. Tan borski strikes again. Moved around looking for the trout. Finally found one at 19”. Those fish have apparently been warming up for Thanksgiving. To that end, Mwatson71 and I hit one of our favorite nite spots a couple of weeks ago, and never moved, as we easily caught and released 70 FAT reds between us from 10:30 pm to 3 am - and at least 10 were perfect tournament reds at 27-28 inches and 9 to 12 lbs. The trout were scarce, but we did not mind. Look at the belly on one of my best - a 11 lb tank:

Kind of wanted to go today, but not looking very promising on the weather.

Kind of dying to go out fishing. Weather has not been very cooperative.
